Many of the neighborhood's larger homes have been converted into multi-unit rentals, says Eugene Modesti, broker and co-owner of Modesti Realty. “There are a lot of single-family rental homes,” he says. “They’re really nice houses, but they might need a lot of work.” As one of Racine’s oldest neighborhoods, many of Cedar Bend’s homes were built in the early 1900s. Units in a duplex can sell between $50,000 and $80,000, while single-family homes sell from $90,000 to $180,000. East of Cedar Bend, Downtown Racine’s First Fridays brings live music to the area from June to December. Events are held on the first Friday of each month and feature a different theme each month. More than just a live music show, the event spans numerous restaurants and shops throughout the downtown area, with each offering its own specials and celebrations. In November, the city celebrates the holidays with the Downtown Racine Holiday Parade and Tree-Lighting Ceremony. The parade starts at the State Street bridge and continues to City Hall, after which revelers gather at Monument Square for the lighting of the tree.Parks along the Root River
Cedar Bend Park is a green space covering two acres along the Root River. The park connects to the Root River Pathway, which follows the river and winds its way north to end at Layard Avenue. The Root River Pathway begins at the Main Street Bridge, covers 4 miles and includes educational signs that describe the importance of the river in the development of Racine. On Clayton Avenue, Clayton Park offers views of the water and holds a playground, a swing set and a small basketball court. Another park that attracts people to the river is Horlick Park, says Alexandra Riley, office manager of Downtown Racine Corporation. “Horlick park is really big, and they put pickle ball courts there. But people who live here call it Island Park.” The park is made of an island set in the Root River and holds a playground, a baseball field and trails to roam.Risks of life on the riverbanks
