Humble Park Community Center neighborhood nucleus
Located just 3 miles southwest of downtown Racine, Humble Park is a residential neighborhood anchored by a namesake community center that pulses with fun activity. Its proximity to the Humble Park and Community Center, public schools and ample choices for dining out and shopping makes this a place people like to call home, even if they've been away for a long time.
"A lot of us grew up in this neighborhood and married off, but our families were still living here, so many of us ended up moving back. We're like family now," says Humble Park Community Center supervisor Berta Gomez, who's lived in the area for 50 years.
The community center is the neighborhood's nucleus. "It's a really close-knit neighborhood, and the community center is one of its biggest assets," says Jeanne Brenner, a recreation supervisor who's worked for the city parks department for 30 years.
Community Center packed with neighborhood activities for all ages
The community center is this neighborhood's literal and figurative hub, offering a surprising number and variety of valuable services and activities for free. Some free programs include tai chi classes and card games for seniors, after-school activities, youth sports, a dads' group, indoor pickleball and a summertime kids' drop-off program. Indoor facilities include two kitchens and a meeting room. The only service with a fee is the Playground Program, a summer kids' activity program for kids from age 4 through 8th grade where caregivers sign kids in and out for half-day sessions for $4 per child. Nearby small green spaces include Pierce Woods Park and Squirel Park.

Interstate 94 just 7 miles to west
Humble Park is 7 miles east of Interstate 94 which takes drivers to Kenosha 30 miles north and Milwaukee 10 miles south. Public transportation is also a viable option for residents of Humble Park, thanks to numerous RYDE Racine bus stops along Lathrop Avenue, West Boulevard and 21st Street. Those who prefer cycling can take the County Bike Trail at the neighborhood's north and west ends.
Higher risk of flooding between Hayes Avenue and Blaine Avenue
There's an increased chance of flooding between Blaine Avenue and Hayes Avenue and at the northeast tip of the neighborhood between the County Bike Trail and West Boulevard. And residents who live along Lathrop Avenue can expect more traffic noise.
