North Bay-Shorecrest
Beachfront properties and starter homes with curb appeal
The neighborhood has a variety of midcentury homes at different price points. The North Bay subdivision on the east side has the neighborhood's largest houses and lots, which can reach over half an acre. Tudor Revival, Colonial Revival and ranch-style properties are often set back from the street with sprawling, manicured front lawns. Many of these properties are within walking distance of the water, and some have private beach frontage. Further inland are smaller brick ranch, Minimal Traditional and Cape Cod-style dwellings. "It's going to be the starter homes under the $250,000 range, and there are not a lot of homes under that price anymore in that area of Racine," Williams says. Prices throughout the neighborhood range from about $170,000 to $480,000. Multifamily buildings also provide rental opportunities.New facilities in the Racine Unified School District
The Racine Unified School District is renovating and expanding its facilities, and in 2024, Jerstad-Agerholm School was the focus. Set in the center of the neighborhood, the school received a new gym, cafeteria and classrooms. It earns a C-minus from Niche and serves kindergarten through eighth-grade students. Kids may also attend the C-plus-rated Horlick High School, where they can explore their interests in the academies of business and culinary arts, education and technical services, and health sciences and aviation.Racine beaches and neighborhood parks
A quiet neighborhood beach is in close reach on the east side. Residents swim at their own risk since lifeguards aren't on duty. About three miles south, North Beach is a busier area for sunbathing and swimming. It has volleyball courts, a playground, a grassy picnic area and a concessions area. Lifeguards are on duty during the swimming season from June to August. Racine Zoo features various animal exhibits and a passive beach. Green spaces are also scattered around the neighborhood. Vidian-Cheska Park, Mat Matson Park and Carlson Park feature playgrounds and open spaces.Shopping and dining in the neighborhood and downtown Racine
Grocery trips are possible at the neighborhood Dollar Tree and Piggly Wiggly. State Route 32 has a few fast food options on the neighborhood's west side. Downtown Racine, about 3 miles south, is a hub for waterfront dining, entertainment and boutique shopping near the lake. Boaters dock outside Reefpoint Brew House, which serves burgers, flatbreads, seafood and barbecue. At the Sixth Street Theater, the Over Our Head Players perform comedies, musicals and thrillers.Summertime events in downtown Racine
Racine comes together for downtown events, especially in the summer. First Fridays includes varying experiences, from culinary tours to art crawls, each month from May to December. Party on the Pavement is the city's biggest annual event, with live music, vendors, performances and activities spanning 12 downtown blocks. This September tradition has been happening for over 20 years. Locals flock to the beach for the annual Fourth of July Fireworks show, visible up and down the shoreline.Highways, bike routes and buses around town
Highways, bike routes and buses provide routes around town. Belle Urban Systems buses stop throughout the neighborhood and connect downtown. State Route 32 is a main north-south road through town, and the Lake Michigan Pathway is a bike-safe route starting on Erie Street. Milwaukee, about 20 miles north, offers more shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities. "There's a lot going on within a 20 or 30 minute drive," Williams says. The Foxconn technology manufacturing facility and Amazon and fulfillment centers are major employers less than 15 miles away.
