Central Racine neighborhood home to main transit center
Riverview is a central Racine neighborhood searching for an identity as it has gone through several eras, according to residents. "This place, unfortunately, is a little bit dead," says Kimberly Mann of Real Broker. "Several merchants used to live here, with tons of local businesses that have all been pushed out. However, with our public transportation hub located here, there could be a resurgence."
In 2010, the City of Racine renamed the Racine Transit Center, home of RYDE Racine, the Corinne Reid-Owens Transit Center. Reid-Owens was one of the first African American teachers in the Racine Unified School District. Riverview is also a mile west of downtown Racine and State Route 38, a major thoroughfare in Wisconsin.
Homes and senior living available in the Riverview community
The dead-end streets of Riverview feature early 20th-century colonials nestled along narrow cross streets. “90% of homes in this community are considered rentals, but you will see a fair share of vacant homes,” says Mann. Single-family colonials in this neighborhood range between $60,000 and $250,000, while duplexes generally range from $130,000 to $200,000. Riverview Manor Senior Apartments, offering affordable apartments with one bedroom and one bathroom, takes up the southeastern corner, offering seniors a spot within the community.

All roads lead back to Corinne Reid Owens Transit Center
The Corinne Reid Owens Transit Center is the centerpiece of the neighborhood, with all RYDE Racine bus lines originating from this hub. Residents can anticipate noise from freight train traffic, as a railway runs through the neighborhood. Still, the neighborhood remains heavily car-dependent, with State Route 38 nearby. Ascension All Saints, the nearest hospital, is 2 miles west of the community. Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is 22 miles north.
Dual language program at Mitchell Middle School
Julian Thomas Elementary School, which has a C-minus grade on Niche, is named after a civil rights activist who played a key role in desegregating Racine schools. Mitchell Middle School, the Racine Unified School District's first community school and part of a kindergarten through eighth-grade building, offers a dual-language program for all students and gets a C-minus. Students typically finish at Park High School, which has a B-minus grade on Niche.

Travel outside of the community for restaurants, supermarkets
Going east on Sixth Street, across the Root River, most residents will find restaurants and retail shops in downtown Racine. Olde Madrid serves authentic Spanish cuisine, pairing tapas with sangria. Kewpee Sandwich Shop is a classic American diner featuring 1920s decor. Pepi’s Pub and Grill is a local dive bar known for its Bloody Marys. Grocery stores are limited in this area despite a local Walgreens at the northern tip of the neighborhood. For supermarkets, residents must travel 3 miles west to Pick 'n Save.

Access to Clayton Park and Island Park
Riverview is situated between two city-owned parks: Clayton Park and Island Park. Clayton Park is a six-acre park that includes a basketball court and playground. Island Park – sometimes called Horlick Park – is three times the size of Clayton and features two baseball diamonds, pickleball courts, and a new dog park. The park also has space for picnics, and, with its proximity to the river, there are canoe launch pads for locals. Both parks share a portion of the Root River Pathway, a four-mile trail that passes through nine City of Racine parks that runs through Barbee Park in the neighborhood’s southeastern corner.
