A mix of industry and residential meets in Northwest Racine
A mixed industrial and residential neighborhood, the 14th Ward sits in the northwest reaches of Racine. “Racine is interesting because we are one of those cities where our communities have pockets of amazingness,” says Jason Braun, real estate agent at Realty ONE Group Boardwalk. “Personally, I love the north side where the 14th Ward is conveniently located.” Pockets of residential homes dating to the early- and mid-1900s sit on gridded streets, with a main thoroughfare and train tracks cutting through the middle. Industry, including warehousing and storage facilities, is located in the northern half, where planes fly overhead to land at Batten International Airport. The quieter residential blocks offer convenience to family-style dining options like Park Inn and events at Midwest Market 2210, a marketplace with more than 45 shops. They’re also walkable to some of Racine’s public schools, including Horlick High School, whose athletic field is also home to a semi-professional football team.
A mix of Cape Cods, Bungalows, newly renovated Ranch-style homes
Homes in this neighborhood feature small, narrow driveways, often leading to one-car garages. Most residents park on the street, in front of stoops and small front porches overlooking postage-stamp front lawns. Lots here are rarely larger than a tenth of an acre, with fences providing a touch of privacy in the tight backyards. The community offers a variety of architectural styles, including Cape Cods, ranch-style homes and bungalows, almost all built between 1920 and 1960. These generally sell in the range of $130,000 to $210,000. Newly renovated bungalows, along with duplexes that offer the ability to live in one side while renting the other, often sell for $200,000 to $250,000.
