A neighborhood revitalizing through investments
The 19th Ward neighborhood, located west of downtown Racine, is shaped by renovations and investment. From public transportation to the school system, the area is experiencing revitalized growth as new homebuyers move in. Its proximity to downtown allows residents to enjoy a variety of shopping and dining options that may be lacking within the neighborhood. However, the neighborhood’s immediate access to parks, such as Horlick Athletic Field and Quarry Lake Park, which draw heavy crowds during summer, remains a key attraction for locals.
Newly remodeled, spacious homes are springing up all around the 19th Ward.

A mix of investment-heavy, newly renovated homes
Homebuyers should expect to encounter ongoing construction projects, narrow alleyways, and tight driveways that often force cars to park on the street in this heavily residential neighborhood. “Generally in that area, you’re going to find single-family homes that feature three bedrooms, but conditions will vary in investing in new appliances or complete remodels,” says Amber Lachey, a real estate agent with Sun Realty Group. Four-squares from the turn of the 20th century and bungalows needing renovations typically start around $60,000 and reach approximately $95,000. Fully remodeled homes and duplexes range between $100,000 and $300,000.

RYDE Racine to undergo maintenance restorations
RYDE Racine, Racine's public transportation system, is set to undergo a $1.22 million renovation project to its maintenance building. The project will enhance the facility with upgraded restrooms, seating areas and digital information boards. Accessibility upgrades include ramps and elevators, while a modernized surveillance system will improve riders' security. RYDE has more than 20 stops accessible to residents in the 19th Ward neighborhood. Drivers can take State Street or Douglas Avenue to downtown or out to the northwestern suburbs. While train tracks run through the neighborhood and contribute a slight increase in noise, these are freight only; there is no passenger service from Racine. The nearest public airport with commercial flights, Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, is 20 miles away, while the closest hospital, Ascension All Saints Hospital, is just 3 miles away.

Authentic Mexican cuisine in the heart of the neighborhood
Finding a restaurant in this heavily residential neighborhood may be challenging. Still, Mexican cuisine, such as Taqueria Arandas, draws locals with its al pastor tacos and horchata, available in-house or at one of its many food truck locations. The 19th Ward is also just minutes from downtown Racine, where dining options expand to include international cuisines such as Italian and Indian restaurants. “Racine has some of the best undercover restaurants. I actually prefer our food, believe it or not,” said Jason Braun, a real estate agent with Realty ONE Group Boardwalk. “We have excellent pizza spots and really nice Indian cuisine, like Chit Chaat, right next to the neighborhood.” Most residents head to ALDI, roughly a mile outside the neighborhood for groceries.

Quarry Lake Park, which borders the 19th Ward neighborhood, is an outdoor park and man-made beach featuring a multi-terrace shoreline and an 18-acre freshwater lake. “Our weather here in Racine is hit or miss, but many people utilize Quarry Lake Park, and there have been plenty of new renovations there,” says Lacher.
The park recently underwent construction for a new beach house. The 9,100-square-foot facility includes a concrete patio area for picnic tables, handicap-accessible paths, a beer garden with a stage and bandshell, space for food trucks, and a breezeway connecting the buildings that leads from the parking lot to the beach.
