Raisin Township has plenty of single-family home options
Raisin Township, located between Adrian and Tecumseh, offers buyers plenty of single-family homes while being close to outdoor attractions, shopping and dining locations. Established as a farming community in the 1800s, the township is named after the River Raisin, which runs through the center. The area has maintained its rural feel but has steadily grown in housing availability and population size, growing to 7,900 residents. “Raisin Township is largely a bedroom community to Tecumseh and Adrian. It's almost all residential,” says Mark Baker, a broker/owner with Foundation Realty with 17 years of experience. “I would say [about an] acre lot size is the average.”
A mix of housing styles with large lots and some HOA activity
Homes include ranch-styles, Colonial Revivals, bungalows and New Traditionals. The median home price is $334,000, lower than the national median but higher than Michigan’s. Depending on age, size and condition, homes can cost between $100,000 and $550,000.
Properties are typically on winding streets with large lots, with oak and pine trees accenting lawns. Some roads also do not have sidewalks. Baker says that the average house size in the township is around 2,500 square feet, and there is very little HOA activity. Baker adds that the area has mainly attracted families.
Public and private school options available
Students can be zoned for several public school districts, including Tecumseh Public Schools, graded B on Niche, and Adrian Public Schools, which earns a B grade. Private religious schools are in the area, including the B-ranked Lenawee Christian School, offering pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade programs. Higher education institutions are in Adrian, such as Siena Heights University and Adrian College.
Parks, trails, a winery and indoor attractions for township residents
Mitchell Park features a soccer field, baseball diamonds, sports courts and a playground. Heritage Park, on the southwestern edge of the township, includes pickleball courts, trails and a sledding hill. The Ives Road Fen Preserve has hiking trails and bird-watching spots. The Raisin Valley Golf Club is a public course with a 6,000-yard Par 71 layout.
The Flying Otter Vineyard & Winery features a tasting room and events, including live music and a happy hour every Thursday. Ten Pin Alley has been in the community since the 1970s and offers multiple bowling lanes.
Dining spots are in Tecumseh while Adrian has more shopping
Dining locations are in downtown Tecumseh or along Highway 50 and include a mix of chains and local spots. City Limits Diner & Pancake House is open for breakfast and lunch. Tecumseh Tavern has sandwiches, salads and flatbread, while Salsaria’s serves Mexican cuisine.
Smaller convenience stores are along Russell Road and Adrian Highway. Tecumseh has a Busch’s Fresh Food Market and several big box stores. More shopping locations are 8 miles south in Adrian.
Weather risks in Raisin Township
According to Federal Emergency Management Agency maps, the township is at risk of flooding, especially near the River Raisin. Snow and severe storms can also be factors.
Local highways lead to interstates while airports are further out
Highway 52 runs along the western edge of the township, leading south to downtown Adrian and Interstate 94, roughly 30 miles north. Toledo Express Airport is 31 miles south, while Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County is 46 miles northeast. ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital is on the western edge of the township.
