Sunset Hills
Suburban Neighborhood in Raleigh, North Carolina
Wake County 27607, 27608

No two homes alike
Homes in Sunset Hills sit on wide, walkable streets. While only about 4 miles from Downtown Raleigh, the neighborhood is quiet, and the streets feel secluded from the metropolitan hubbub. No two houses look the same in Sunset Hills, and many properties have unique architectural features like stately columns, stone facades or sloping gabled roofs. There’s a blend between historic properties – primarily built in the 1950s – and new construction, with prices starting around the mid $600,000 range and reaching about $2 million. There are also a few townhouse options in the upper $400,000 range.Pocket parks and golf courses
There are some pocket parks, like Windemere Beaver Dam Park and Banbury Park, that are walkable from some houses. They feature playgrounds and a few benches. For a larger outdoor experience, Jaycee Park is just outside Sunset Hills. There are courts and fields for tennis, sand volleyball, baseball and softball, as well as two brand-new, sprawling playgrounds. The Jaycee Community Center, which has various fitness facilities and hosts events throughout the year, a Daylily Garden and a dog run are also in the park. Close by is the Carolina Country Club, which has an 18-hole private course in addition to a clubhouse, pool, tennis courts and more for members.A's for neighborhood schools
Students are zoned for the Wake County School District and can attend Lacy Elementary before LeRoy Martin Magnet Middle School. Niche gives these schools grades of A. Students can finish their public education at Broughton Magnet High School, which receives an A-minus from Niche. Broughton offers students nearly 20 Advanced Placement (AP) classes, almost 30 International Baccalaureate (IB) courses and foreign language studies in German, French, Spanish and Mandarin.4 miles to Downtown Raleigh
Starting on Wade Avenue, locals can reach Downtown Raleigh in about 4 miles. “It’s an easy commute into Downtown Raleigh,” Owen says. “It’s an easy 10-minute drive or a quick Uber to the entertainment, restaurants and shops Downtown.” When it’s time to fly, the Raleigh-Durham International Airport is about 12 miles northeast. Nearby are two higher education institutions: North Carolina State University and Meredith College. Owen says, “The universities being close by only has a positive impact on the community. Locals love going to the sporting events they provide, and a lot of professors live nearby.”Near Cameron Village
Locals can grab groceries from Whole Foods Market at Ridgewood Shopping Center, just outside the neighborhood. Also, here, there’s a Walgreens, a nail salon and a few retailers, like Orvis. To eat out, Taco Bamba is a popular spot, serving wide-ranging taco selections with fresh ingredients. Glenwood Village is another nearby shopping center. Here, locals can grab groceries from Harris Teeter or eat out at one of the various restaurants, like Glenwood Grill, which serves southern cooking, or Hako Sushi, the neighborhood's go-to for handrolls and sashimi. “The neighborhood is really close to The Village District – formerly known as Cameron Village – which has some great dining and shopping options,” Owen says. “That’s definitely a draw.”
