Between Baltimore City and Liberty Reservoir

Randallstown is a large swath of land located northwest of Downtown Baltimore. This densely populated suburb brushes up against pockets of woodland and shopping destinations that draw visitors from all over Maryland. “It is surrounded by Owings Mills, Pikesville and Marriottsville, but it’s a bit more affordable than those areas,” says Tabitha Richardson, broker, Realtor and owner of NextHome Leaders, who has 19 years of experience selling real estate in the area. “Randallstown is a good alternative for families who want to live in the suburbs but don’t want to pay suburb prices.” The neighborhood’s diverse collection of single-family homes, organized into cul-de-sacs that sprawl out from the businesses along the bustling Liberty Road, lends it the atmosphere of a cozy suburb without sacrificing convenience.

Sprawling cul-de-sacs off Liberty Road

Prospective buyers can expect to find mostly single-family homes in a variety of architectural styles. Townhouses, cottages, split-levels and ranch styles can all be found here, as can larger Modern Traditional and Colonial Revival builds. “You won’t find many of the Baltimore row houses here,” Richardson says. “It’s more traditional townhouses and single-family homes that are priced better than surrounding areas.” Townhouse prices begin around $275,000 and rise upwards of $460,000 depending on build year and number of bedrooms. For single-family homes, prices begin around $310,000 and climb up to $600,000.

Hitting the books in Baltimore County

Children in Randallstown attend Baltimore County Public Schools, such as Randallstown Elementary, which Niche grades a B-minus and which has served the community since its establishment in 1908. Students then proceed to Northwest Academy Middle School, rated C-plus and offering a Health Sciences Magnet Program for students interested in pursuing careers in medicine. At Randallstown High, which earns a C-minus, students can participate in a variety of athletic programs, from badminton to basketball to bocce.

Getting around Randallstown

Residents of Randallstown are uniquely positioned to take advantage of all options offered by the surrounding areas. Interstate 695, better known as the Baltimore Beltway, provides the area its major connection to Baltimore Washington International Airport 18 miles south. “You can get to Carroll and Howard Counties pretty easily,” Richardson says. “When 695 gets bad, you can take back roads and avoid most of the traffic.” Owings Mills, a premier shopping destination in the area, is a short 4-mile drive north, and from here locals can catch the Baltimore Metro to Johns Hopkins Hospital, a trip that takes roughly 30 minutes.

The Randallstown Community Center

The Randallstown Community Center, located in the heart of the neighborhood, is a state-of-the-art facility offering an indoor pool, an indoor track, athletic courts and an auditorium along with other amenities. Right next door is the Y of Central Maryland, where residents can participate in health and fitness programming, swim lessons and camps for all ages year-round. Although most green space in the neighborhood consists of pocket parks, Liberty Reservoir is just 8 miles west. Patrons can bike or hike the trails, cast lines into the well-stocked water or push boats out and spend a day paddling along the lake's surface.

Eating and shopping on Liberty Road

Residents will find multiple grocery shopping options along Liberty Road, including Aldi and Walmart Supercenter. There is also a Home Depot available for any weekend project needs. Casual eateries line this thoroughfare, along with several family-owned establishments. “There are lots of mom-and-pop-type restaurants in Randallstown,” Richardson says. “There’s a huge Caribbean population there and in Windsor Mill, so there’s a lot of good food. It draws Caribbean folks from all over the city.” Tashes Ankh, a counter-serve Caribbean diner, has served popular curry chicken and ox tails to the community for over 20 years. Southern Blues, established in 2000, is an award-winning soul food restaurant that offers hearty southern classics like fried chicken and collard greens alongside regional staples like lake trout.

From Stevenson University to the Inner Harbor

Six miles north in Owings Mills, residents can catch Stevenson University college football games or watch the Ravens prepare for their next matchup at Mustang Stadium. Stevenson also hosts national stand-up tours at their arena. Randallstown is also a short trip from the Inner Harbor, so orange-clad neighbors frequently meet up at Camden Yards for Orioles games.
