Outlet Area, a multicultural community
Residents of Outlet Area are proud of their cultural roots, which shows in the neighborhood's character. “It’s a multicultural area, for sure. There is a huge Spanish community and so many Hispanic restaurants and stores,” says Marjorie DeJesus, a seasoned Reading-area Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty. “A lot of my clients come from New York and New Jersey to buy homes here, so they also add to the diversity of the population.” Competitive housing prices initially draw out-of-state buyers, but the area’s culture makes the space feel like home.
Walking along Reading's row houses
Row houses in Outlet Area cost between $120,000 and $170,000, with some options that may need additional remodeling listing as low as $80,000. Homes are typically three stories and have three to five bedrooms. Earth-colored brick and stone exteriors are common because most homes were built in 1900. Properties also come with covered porches and concrete stoops that lead directly onto the city’s sidewalks, so noise from foot traffic may be higher. Parking is usually on-street, but some homes have a detached garage tucked behind the property.
