Communities with amenities and homes on large lots
Colonial Revivals and ranch-style homes tend to sell for $375,000 to about $900,000, though grand estates on sprawling lots like those in the brand-new Readington Meadow development can sell for $900,000 to almost $2 million. Sova says Stanton Ridge is a golf community, while Lake Cushetunk Woods has single-family homes and townhouses. “Lake Cushetunk Woods has an HOA and amenities — sports courts, and things like that," Sova says. "It has public utilities, and that’s hard to come by sometimes.” There are condos, in neighborhoods like Hunters Crossing, that range from $300,000 to $500,000.Family farms, spacious parks and reservoir access
The area includes spacious parks and family farms that often host gatherings. “There are a lot of farms,” Sova says. “We have one right on Route 523, a buffalo farm. A lot of people like to go and see the buffalo, and they have events." Pickell Park near White House Station is one of the more popular parks, with a playground, athletic courts and softball fields, where youth leagues play every summer. Summer Road Park has more athletic fields. Round Valley Recreation Area is 15 minutes away and offers boating, fishing and camping. The Round Valley Reservoir is the second-deepest lake in New Jersey, and the swimming and boating areas are separated by a dam.Top-rated schools and state championship winners
Whitehouse School and Three Bridges School receive A-minus ratings from Niche and offer kindergarten through third-grade classes. Both schools feed into Holland Brook School, which has fourth through fifth-grade classes and also gets an A-minus. Readington Middle School has a B-plus. The A-rated Hunterdon Central Regional High School is ranked as the best public high school in the county by Niche. The school's athletic teams, including basketball and cheerleading, have brought home many state championship trophies. Hunterdon County Polytech is another option, where students can earn college credits through institutions like Raritan Valley Community College and Rutgers University.Exploring the Balloon Festival every July
Solberg Airport is primarily a place for pilots to train and store their planes, but for 40 years, the airport has been the venue for the New Jersey Lottery Festival of Ballooning. The three-day event was suspended in 2024 and 2025, but organizers say they are working on bringing it back. “It’s a huge festival, and people come from all over for it," Sova says. "They launch the balloons twice a day, and there are 50 to 100 balloons. And then they have games and food and a kid’s area.”Driving down highways or catching the train
U.S. Routes 22 and 202 cut through the township and give commuters direct paths into Pennsylvania and the rest of New Jersey. New York City is 50 miles from Readington. “It’s an hour from Manhattan for trips,” Sova says. “There are definitely people who commute to Manhattan, NYC, Princeton and over into Easton. People live here and travel upwards of 40 minutes to an hour for work.” Trains from White House Station take a little over an hour to reach Newark Penn Station, where commuters change trains and take another 30-minute ride to Penn Station in New York. Readington sees below-freezing temperatures and snow during the winter, but the township also prepares for snow by treating major roadways and deploying snowplows when necessary. There are churches throughout the area, and many participate in the Readington Area Starfish food distribution program. Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church is one of the distribution sites. Or Chadash is the only temple in the township.Dining and shopping in Readington and Flemington
When it’s time to shop for groceries, residents in the north half of the area might stop by Kings Food Market or ShopRite off U.S. Route 22. People living in the south half of Readington may be closer to Vacchiano Farm off U.S. Route 202 or the Walmart Supercenter in Flemington. “We have a lot of restaurants,” Sova says. “One of the most popular is The Rail. It sits right on the train line, and you can watch trains go by. They have live music and indoor-outdoor seating.” Before it was The Rail, it was The Union Hotel where visitors stayed after coming into town on the train. Now, it’s a busy restaurant and bar. Agave is another popular restaurant with a Mexican and Italian fusion menu. Flemington has the most in terms of shopping, including The Shoppes at Flemington and boutiques along Main Street.
