The Southwest Oregon Regional Airport is 28 miles away and offers nonstop flights through United Airlines to San Francisco International Airport. Students may attend Highland Elementary School from kindergarten through sixth grade. Reedsport Community Charter School serves students in seventh through 12th grade. Both earn C-minus Niche scores. Southwestern Oregon Community College is 29 miles away. There are no private schools in Gardiner. A majority of Oregon residents deal with wildfire season, a period from July to October, but less so in this area. “People move here to get away from the hot weather and the wildfires,” Adamo says. “Coastal people aren’t affected by it as much because of the ocean breeze.” But since Gardiner is next to the river and near the coast, the great risk is flooding. Homeowners aren’t required, but are encouraged to get flood insurance.
