Suburban quiet and natural backdrops
Located along Reno’s eastern desert frontier, Hidden Valley was once as its name suggested. Soni Jackson, a Realtor with Sotheby’s International Realty, says, “I love Hidden Valley. True to its name, many people don’t know it’s there, including people who were born and raised in Reno.” Hidden Valley has since evolved into a close-knit community brought together through holiday events and shared interests in hiking and cycling along its many trails.
Hiking through hilly Hidden Valley
Hidden Valley was named for its location among Reno’s hilly outskirts, which have since become home to a country club and several parks and trails. “The location of Hidden Valley is probably the best thing about it; you do have lots of hiking trails and a great dog park, one of the best in Reno outside of San Rafael,” says Realtor Harmony Steingrebe with Coldwell Banker Realty. The Link Piazzo Dog Park sits at the entrance of Hidden Valley Regional Park and allows for dog owners to let their dogs run free. Right next to it, two-legged creatures stretch their legs on the pickleball courts and a playground. There's also an equestrian facility with space for horseback riding. The rest of Hidden Valley Park includes several nature trails conducive to both hikers and cyclists, with the longest loop trail running for 2.4 miles. Though the steep terrain and narrow pathways on some trails may offer a slight challenge for adventurers to overcome, there is peaceful immersion to be found among this valley’s shrubby desert terrain.
Mira Loma Park in the city’s western side has a skate park, playground and soccer, football, baseball and softball fields.

Living in and around the Hidden Valley Country Club
Though Hidden Valley may have flown under the radar during much of Reno’s development boom in the late 20th century, it has since cultivated a strong sense of community and character. Jackson says, “Behind the airport zone and tucked into that hillside, it’s a neat community because of its golf course, its flatter topography, its mature landscaping and its ranch-style home feel.” The Hidden Valley Country Club was founded in 1956 by four World War II veterans, including the dog park’s namesake and local philanthropist Link Piazzo. However, the neighborhood around it did not spring up until the 1970s. Condo and townhouse options vary in price from $193,000 to $457,000, while ranch-story homes sell for between $270,000 and $1.14 million and larger, multi-story properties have sold for between $410,000 and $1.15 million. “Hidden Valley known for its larger estates, so you have large lots with nice, large homes. Most of them have big basements with extra square footage and a big backyard,” Steingrebe says.

Hidden Valley is home to the locally famous Hidden Valley Parade of Lights, put on every December by the Hidden Valley Community Alliance. “They have the best Christmas lights in town,” Jackson says. “My family and I go every year, and they have a ‘top ten’ list of houses’ Christmas light displays. You actually go online and vote for them; it’s a staple of Hidden Valley. Whoever wins, they put up a big Number-One sign outside their home.”
Mira Loma puts shopping and dining just around the corner from home
Just across the Veterans Parkway from Hidden Valley, the Mira Loma Shopping Center is a one-stop shop for the essentials. A Raley’s covers grocery needs, while this retail hub also includes a bicycle store, a CVS pharmacy and a hardware store. Los Chilaquiles Mexican Breakfast, open from 7 AM to 3 PM, serves up hearty brunches with a Mexican twist, like scrambled eggs with chorizo or sub sandwiches served with Oaxaca cheese and avocado. Next door, the Flowing Tide Pub specializes in bar fare like mozzarella sticks and crispy chicken wings.
Hidden Valley is home to a variety of ethnic cuisines, including heaping plates of Hawaiian BBQ.

Connections with Virginia City and downtown Reno
Hidden Valley is both concealed by busy highways and connected to the rest of Washoe County by them. Realtor Sandy Gabrielli with Re/Max says, “Hidden Valley used to be pretty hidden; they built a new road through there several years ago. There are still a lot of wild horses along the beautiful Veterans’ Parkway.” This same parkway connects Hidden Valley to downtown Reno 10 miles to the northwest and the historical attractions of Virginia City 21 miles to the southeast. Reno/Tahoe International Airport is also just a 6-mile drive down Rock Boulevard. In fact, part of the neighborhood abuts the airports eastern edge and is subject to bursts of loud planes taking off and landing.
The Washoe County bus service runs through the western part of the neighborhood along Mira Loma Park.
Though rare, the neighborhood was hit by a flash flood in 2024, damaging about 100 homes and the park.
The Hidden Valley community is pushed up against the mountains South East of Downtown Reno.
There are plenty of bus stops in Hidden Valley, most of which are near commercial centers.
