A "beautifully green" community
Huffaker’s streets are defined by their verdant lawns, an abundance of bungalow and ranch-style homes and trees that offer shade to pedestrians strolling these quiet streets’ sidewalks. Tobar says, "One of my clients described Huffaker as ‘beautifully green.’" When traversing Huffaker’s suburban streetscapes, one might forget that they are just miles away from the desert, as the lush greenery makes Huffaker one of Reno’s most colorful communities. “There’s mature green trees and parks, and it’s a beautiful neighborhood,” Tobar says. Several condo developments and apartment complexes in the neighborhood offer homes with community amenities like swimming pools and tennis courts. A two-bedroom condo in Huffaker can cost anywhere from $270,000 to $450,000, while single-family homes typically cost between $450,000 and $500,000.Desert exploration in the Huffaker Hills
Huffaker originated as a ranching community of the Wild West era, and, while this neighborhood has since become a residential suburb of Reno, its connection to nature is still as strong as ever. Tobar says, “Huffaker has a beautiful community park with a playground, and it’s right behind a mountain which people can hike.” The Huffaker Hills invite nature lovers to immerse themselves in the hilly terrain of the Carson Range’s foothills, with rocky hilltops offering panoramic views of seasonally snowcapped mountains, Alexander Lake and the Reno skyline. The nearby Rattlesnake Mountain is one of the most popular sightseeing venues in the area, especially when Reno’s colorful lights come on at night. Within the neighborhood, Huffaker Park has multiple sports facilities, including a baseball field, tennis and basketball courts and a soccer field. Residents can also hike or bike on the park's trail, which leads away from the grassy fields through a desert landscape.A-rated education at Damonte Ranch
Students in Huffaker can attend Donner Springs Elementary School, given a B rating by Niche, as well as the B-minus-rated Pine Middle School and the A-minus-rated Damonte Ranch High School. From commuting to grocery shopping, Interstate 580 serves as the lifeline of Reno-area travelers. Huffaker residents enjoy immediate access to the highway, which gives residents a 9.5-mile trip into downtown Reno. Reno-Tahoe International Airport is also 5.5 miles north along I-580, while the Northern Nevada Medical Center – Sierra is located within the heart of Huffaker. Huffaker residents can easily spend a day skiing in the mountains at Mt. Rose, about 18 miles south of the neighborhood, or Incline Village 30 miles to the south. Several significant employers and warehouses are located just southeast of the neighborhood, including International Game Technology, Penguin Random House and Aramark. Residents also have access to several bus stops along the 56 line, which can take them to the mall, and the CRSN Regional Connector, which takes them into downtown Reno.Malls and meals out
Because of this neighborhood’s location along Interstate 580, Huffaker residents have easy access to some of South Reno’s greatest shopping outlets. The Meadowood Mall, one of the largest shopping centers in the region, is situated just 2 miles up the highway, offering a comprehensive array of retail conveniences. Closer to home, shoppers can visit one of the many smaller retail outlets lining the highway for a meal out, from the smoke meat platters at Butchers Kitchen Char-B-Que to the meatball subs at Paisan's Old World Deli & Catering. Residents can shop for groceries at WinCo Foods or Sprouts Farmers Market at the neighborhood's southern end, while a Whole Foods and a Target are also nearby.
