Laurel offers convenience and a suburban atmosphere

Laurel is a suburban community just outside Richmond that’s close to shopping areas on Staples Mill Road and Broad Street. Housing here is a mix of older ranch-style homes, New Traditional houses and newly built townhouses. Prices tend to be lower than in nearby areas, making this an appealing place for first-time homebuyers. Henrico County Public Schools are a draw for families, and homes here are just minutes from stores and main thoroughfares, making Laurel a convenient place to live.

Homes prices tend to be lower than nearby areas

The median home sale price in Laurel is in the mid-$300,000s, slightly lower than Richmond’s overall median and lower than the nearby neighborhoods of Glen Allen, Echo Lake and Lakeside. Single-family houses typically range from the upper $200,000s to the mid-$500,000s, while townhouses range from the upper $100,000s to the lower $500,000s. Most residents own their homes, and many rent apartments or townhouses.

What kinds of homes you can find in Laurel

In Laurel, you can find established subdivisions with ranch-style and split-level houses built in the 1960s through the ‘80s, as well as areas with more contemporary New Traditional builds. “The thing that I like about it the most is that everyone takes really good care of their property,” says Bobbie Goad, a top Realtor with Long & Foster Real Estate who has been working with clients locally since 2010. “All of the lawns are manicured, and you can tell that everyone who lives here takes pride in their homes.” There are also townhouse communities built from the 1970s to 2020s.

A family-friendly suburb where people stick around

Laurel is a suburban neighborhood of peaceful subdivisions. “Laurel, in my opinion, is one of the greatest parts of Henrico,” says Iris Hernandez, a Realtor with United Real Estate Richmond who’s sold homes in the area since 2014. She adds that its lower prices and proximity to shopping centers make it especially popular with first-time homebuyers and families with kids. “The good thing about this area is that most families stay longer than normal. … It’s a neighborhood that families buy to stay in, not just move quickly.”

There are pretty much never any crimes that are anywhere close to the neighborhood. The police station is less than a mile away so if there is any, they will respond very quickly.

There is a lot of space between the houses and there are not very many abandoned properties that are anywhere nearby.
