High Resort is conveniently located north of New Mexico's largest city

The residential streets of High Resort sit at a comfortable distance from the city of Rio Rancho, though not so far removed that it feels like a separate place. “High Resort is actually the original part of Rio Rancho,” says associate broker Mario Romero of Coldwell Banker Legacy, who has nearly 10 years of experience in the area. “It’s centrally located to some good restaurants, the high school and the aquatic center.” This convenience makes the community feel self-contained, with grocery stores, parks and restaurants all within a five-minute drive. This neighborhood is also a short distance from destinations in downtown Albuquerque, allowing for the opportunity to experience all the Rio Grande Valley has to offer from the comfort of a suburban perch.

Pueblo and Spanish features define the homes in High Resort

The residential streets of High Resort are tightly packed with detached single-family homes, many with Pueblo-inspired stucco frames and Spanish tile roofs. Drought-resistant trees like the Chinese pistache and the Texas red oak defy the desert and speckle yards throughout the neighborhood, providing patches of shade to pedestrians on the sidewalks. Backyards are often large enough to accommodate swimming pools, patios and gardens. Depending on the number of bedrooms, build year and lot size, prices can range from $400,000 to around $560,000.

The Rio Rancho Sports Complex is a nearby recreation facility

Extensive outdoor recreation lies just across High Resort Boulevard. “The neighborhood is very close to the Rio Rancho Sports Complex, one of the largest parks in Rio Rancho that offers a lot of sports facilities,” Romero says. “That place is always busy with Little League games, football, tennis and soccer.” Other nearby facilities include the Rio Rancho Aquatic Center, a large indoor pool where residents can swim or even kayak, and the McDermott Athletic Center, which features several batting cages and an ice rink.

Grocery stores and restaurants are a short drive from High Resort

Rio Rancho Marketplace is on the east side of the neighborhood. It is home to the closest Albertsons grocery store and a Target. Other options, such as Smith’s and a Walmart Neighborhood Market, can be found along either side of Pat D’Arco Highway, along with plenty of chain and locally owned restaurants. “Dion’s Pizza is a staple here in New Mexico,” Romero says. “And right next to the High Ranch location is Whiptail, a great Asian fusion place.”

Pat D'Arco Highway is the area's major commuter thoroughfare

While High Resort is a relatively walkable part of town, residents will be car-dependent when leaving home. “Neither of these two towns is well-known for public transportation access,” Romero says. Pat D’Arco Highway is the main lifeline of the neighborhood, connecting it south to Rio Rancho and Albuquerque. Taking this road north to meet up with Interstate 25 is the most direct route for commuters to get to Santa Fe.

Events and culture in nearby Rio Rancho and Albuquerque

High Resort residents do not need to travel far to enjoy weekend entertainment. “Rio Rancho has an events center north of High Resort,” Romero says. “They hold concerts and stand-up comedy shows there, and it’s the home arena of the professional indoor soccer team, the New Mexico Runners.” In nearby Albuquerque, locals can browse the museums and art galleries in Old Town or attend Ice Wolves hockey games at Outpost Ice Arenas.
