Stretching up and down North Jersey’s lush Pascack Valley, River Vale is one of Bergen County’s most fashionable suburbs. Known for its variety of housing styles, its large country clubs and golf courses, and its strong public schools, River Vale offers a top-of-its-class suburban experience for its residents. River Vale’s history as a borough may only date to the suburban explosion of the early 1900s, but its pre-borough history includes a Revolutionary War battle from 1778 and years of belonging to the now-defunct Harrington Township, formed in 1775. River Vale became a popular location for New York commuters as suburbanization took over North Jersey in the 1900s, but this town retains a quiet, spacious character a century later. Realtor Bob Dzienis of eXp Realty says, “Just over 9,000 people call River Vale – one of the beautiful towns that encompasses the Pascack Valley – home.”

River Vale’s long history has produced a signature look for its abundance of suburban residences. “The No. 1 reason why people love River Vale is its homes, from colonials, bi-levels, and split-levels to ranches and new construction," says Dzienis. "River Vale has that more sparsely, suburban feel; homes tend to be spread out, and your median home value is about $620,000.”

River Vale’s wealth of classic home styles is just one of the reasons why this suburb has become one of Bergen County’s most coveted locales. This community, while spacious and quiet, is home to its own dining scene. “You’ve got some excellent local restaurants, from Crecco’s Café to Ammata Thai Kitchen and Cuban Eddie’s,” Dzienis says. These restaurants serve dishes with influences from across the world, from Ammata’s Thai barbecue to Crecco’s pizza and Cuban Eddie’s Caribbean classics.

Residents of River Vale can take advantage of the natural beauty of the Pascack Valley in various ways. "A lot of bikers use River Vale Road and Orangeburg Road to take them over the border right into Rockland County, New York," says Dzienis. He also notes that throughout the summer and early fall months, River Vale also has a great farmers market. Avid golfers can take advantage of the semi-private River Vale Country Club. The private Edgewood Country Club offers a pool, gym, activities and a bar and restaurant. In October, the town celebrates fall with rides, games, and food. "It’s a great way for residents to get together and celebrate why River Vale is such as great town.”

Another major draw for River Vale homebuyers is the appeal of an outstanding public education. Dzienis says, “You have lower student to class ratios and higher test scores, and the Pascack Valley High School is known for its athletic program, as well as its academics.” Pascack Valley High has consistently ranked among the top 40 high schools in New Jersey, with outstanding math and language arts test scores.

River Vale residents are just a 45-minute drive from Manhattan via the Palisades Interstate Parkway and the George Washington Bridge, putting commuters in an ideal location for scenic drives to and from the Big Apple. With a welcoming, leafy atmosphere and the conveniences of strong schools and proximity to New York City, River Vale stands out as one of Bergen County’s most popular suburbs.
