Towns and roadways close to Hollywoods
A master-planned, suburban community in Aberdeen, Hollywoods, 27 miles from Baltimore, is favored for its proximity to nearby roadways and towns. “It’s convenient to Baltimore and Aberdeen Proving Ground, the military base. It also has good prices,” says Kirk Steffes, a Realtor with Cummings & Co. Realty. Steffes has worked in the industry for 25 years. Aberdeen Proving Ground, 4 miles away, is a U.S. Army base known for researching and developing military weapons and equipment. The Hollywoods development is next door to Belcamp, also called Riverside, and houses the area’s elementary school. Shopping, dining and entertainment can be found in downtown Aberdeen, 4 miles away, and Bel Air, 10 miles away, using the Pulaski Highway and Riverside Parkway.
Condos, townhouses and single-family homes
Hollywoods was developed in the early 2000s and is divided into sections according to housing type. At the northern end of the development are modern Colonial Revival-style condos. Taking up most of the area are Colonial Revival-style townhouses with vinyl siding and brick facing. Many have colorfully painted shutters. Condos and townhouses have shared green spaces, and each section of townhouses has a shared playground. At the southern end of the development are single-family homes in the New Traditional style with Colonial Revival inspiration. single-family homes generally have front and backyards with room for a deck or a patio. All houses line winding streets bordered by sidewalks and green, manicured lawns.
Prices depend on housing type. Townhouses and condos range from $275,000 to $440,000. The Community Asset Management Property Management Team services the homeowners’ association for three condo buildings and charges $305 to $440 per month, depending on the building, and $250 a quarter. HOA fees for townhouses are around $85 a month. Single-family homes range from $320,000 to $525,000. HOA fees for single-family homes are around $18 a month. The CAP Index Crime Score for Hollywoods is a 2 out of 10. The national average is 4.
Commuters use the Pulaski Highway and Interstate 95
Commuters take the Pulaski Highway to Aberdeen Proving Ground and downtown Aberdeen. Heading south on the Riverside Parkway leads to Bel Air. All three locations are less than 20 minutes away from Hollywoods. Using Interstate 95, those heading into Baltimore arrive in 30 to 60 minutes. While there are sidewalks within the development, most shopping, dining and schools are outside the area, so residents are largely car-dependent. Baltimore/Washington International Airport is 38 miles south on Interstate 95. The University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Aberdeen is 7 miles north along I-95. There are no houses of worship within Hollywoods, but AGAPE Church at Riverside and Love Fellowship Christian Center share a building in Riverside, 2 miles away.
Students attend Hartford County Public Schools
Hardford County Public Schools, which gets an A-minus from Niche, serves the area. Children attend Church Creek Elementary School, which gets a B, and Aberdeen Middle School, which receives a C-plus. Students continue to Aberdeen High School, which gets an A-minus. Aberdeen High School has a math and science magnet program that students may apply to before beginning their first year.
Shopping and dining near Hollywoods
“For shopping, Aberdeen is close by, and the town of Bel Air is also in that area,” says Steffes. “And there are some restaurants and stores in Riverside itself.” Off I-95 is a Maryland House Travel Plaza, a rest stop with convenience stores and chain restaurants such as Elevation Burger, Sunshine Market, Wendy’s and others. Nearby, Riverside, 2 miles away, has chain and local eateries such as ShopRite for groceries and Riverside Pub & Grille, for American bar and comfort food. Along the Pulaski Highway, Ray’s Caribbean American Food, 3 miles away, is a small diner known for its chicken and fish dishes.
Parks and recreation at Hollywoods Park and Ripken Stadium
Hollywoods Park is nestled among a swath of thick trees. The stretch of manicured greenery hosts a soccer field and a baseball field. During baseball season, residents watch the Aberdeen IronBirds play on Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium, 5 miles away. Behind the stadium are nine fields replicating famous baseball parks such as Fenway Park and Old Yankee Stadium. These parks are used for tournaments, tours and events.
Events at Ripken Stadium
Ripken Stadium hosts holiday events throughout the year. In December, Harford Holiday decks out the stadium for a winter celebration with sleigh rides, Mrs. Claus Storytimes, vendors, light displays and other yule-themed activities.
