Westview Terrace
1960s neighborhood vibe
Westview Terrace is mostly residential, and 1964 is the median year homes were built. With wide, walkable streets, ranch-style and split-level homes and yards with enough room to toss a ball around, Westview Terrace embodies a neighborhood from this post-war era. Houses sit on quiet streets, some of which end in cul-de-sacs. The Blue Ridge Mountains are visible in the distance; they’re a lush green in the spring and summer and a fiery red in the fall before becoming bare for the winter. Potential homebuyers can find a property for $100,000 to $275,000, depending on the size, age and condition. “Many homebuyers will give their houses fresh life,” Taylor says. “There’s a decent amount of rentals in that area as well. Those that are not being rented are getting updated with new kitchens and bathrooms.” The average home value in Westview Terrace is $235,228, compared to the Roanoke Metro Area's average of $323,680 and the national average of $548,218.What’s happening along Peters Creek Road
One of Roanoke’s main roads, Peters Creek Road, runs along the neighborhood’s western border. This segment is lined with car dealerships, the Roanoke Valley Harley-Davidson dealer, gas stations, fast food restaurants and the Planned Parenthood Roanoke Health Center. There’s also the City Line Square, a shopping center on the corner of Peters Creek and Cove roads with a Food Lion grocery store, Family Dollar and Linda Vista Mexican, the neighborhood’s go-to spot for a quick dinner. Behind the shopping center sits St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church, and just a little farther down Cove Road is the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The neighborhood is also about 4 miles from the Valley View Mall, with retailers like Macy’s and Belk. A shopping center outside of the mall houses a Walmart Supercenter and a Target.JROTC at Roanoke City Public Schools
Students are zoned for Roanoke City Public Schools. They can attend Westside Elementary School and James Breckinridge Middle School, which both receive C’s from Niche. They can finish their public education at William Fleming High School, which gets a B-minus from Niche and offers an Air Force JROTC program.Nearby Countryside Park and the Roanoke Country Club
Countryside Park, a golf course turned green space, is the closest park to the neighborhood. Its open grassy hills, open layout and paved paths where golf carts once drove nod to its past use. The Lick Run Greenway, a 4-mile paved trail from downtown to the Valley View Mall, runs for half a mile through the park, leading to fitness stations that dot the path. There’s also a playground and a picnic shelter at Countryside Park, which is adjacent to the Countryside Sportsplex, a six-field soccer complex and indoor basketball facility on two parcels of land. The Roanoke Country Club is just south of Westview Terrace and has a 27-hole golf course and the Roanoke Valley’s largest indoor and outdoor tennis facilities.8 miles to downtown Roanoke
Westview Terrace is about 3 miles from U.S. Interstate 581, which connects to U.S. Interstate 81, the main interstate in and out of southwestern Virginia. The Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport is just a little farther, about 4 miles east. To reach downtown Roanoke, locals can hop on I-581 from Peters Creek Road and travel south for about 8 miles. Salem is about 4 miles west of the neighborhood, while Vinton is about 9 miles east.
