Established neighborhood on Roanoke’s far west side
Wilmont is on Roanoke’s far west side. An established neighborhood where 1960s homes lie on soft slopes and slightly curved roads, Wilmont offers buyers properties with good bones that they can make their own. “That’s an established, quieter area with older housing,” says Bob Chandler, Realtor with MKB Realtors, who has sold homes throughout Roanoke. “People are drawn to the price.” Fairview Elementary School is in the neighborhood, and kids walk to and from school. Before going home, they might head to Strauss Park or to one of the markets that line Shenandoah Avenue SW. Wilmont is equidistant from downtown Roanoke and downtown Salem, providing residents with options for weekend window shopping or dining.
Strauss Park is a beloved local hangout, combining nature with community.
Downtown Roanoke is only a short drive away and has plenty of retail and restaurants.

Strauss Park’s courts are a hub for local basketball enthusiasts.
What’s happening at Strauss Park
Strauss Park sits within walking distance of some homes. When parking, visitors will see Sycamore trees lining the north side and the sun shining on shadeless grass. Dense trees grow on the south side, where Peters Creek runs through. A picnic shelter and a playground lay at the top of the park. Then, there are tennis and basketball courts where people play pickup games. Youth sports leagues like the Virginia Hellcats occasionally use the park for practices and tryouts.
1960s homes on sloped roads
1962 is the median year Wilmont’s homes were constructed, and the area embodies a neighborhood from this time. The streets lack sidewalks and are wide enough to accommodate cars parked on either side – where many are, even though most homes have driveways and covered carports. Ranch-styles, bilevels and a few Cape Cods sit up and down the Wilmont’s gentle hills. Potential homebuyers can find a property here for between $115,000 and $220,000, with the size and condition being the biggest contributors to price variation.
The neighborhood's ranch homes are sought after for their timeless design.
Wilmont's bi-levels blend modern updates with classic charm.
