Rochester Borough
Shopping, dining and theater in the business district
A rotary-style town square anchors Rochester Borough and connects the commercial corridors of Adams Street and Brighton Avenue. While the business district has seen an influx of vacant storefronts, local businesses like Fritz’s Barber Shop and Valley Om Yoga continue to serve the community. The dining scene ranges from casual spots like My Hero’s Sub Shop and Asian Kitchen II to award-winning restaurants like Rochester Smokehouse & BBQ, known for its southern-style comfort food that’s won the Best of the Valley Community’s Choice Awards for best ribs each year since 2022. “The smokehouse meats are undeniably delicious,” Ball says. Over on Brighton Avenue, Cantina Bar and Grill serves traditional Mexican dishes topped with their homemade salsas. The essentials can be picked up at the Madison Square shopping center, which is a bit further west along Brighton Avenue and includes stores like Dollar General and Giant Eagle Supermarket. The shopping center is also home to North Way Christian Community’s Beaver Valley campus, a multi-site house of worship that hosts events for students, seniors and more. There’s also a vibrant arts and culture scene in the borough. The Center Theatre Players perform family-friendly musicals in the historic Rochester Borough Theater, while R-ACT Theatre Productions puts on big-ticket and in-house productions year-round.Architectural styles include American Foursquares and Dutch Colonial Revivals
Blocks of single-family homes surround the borough’s business district. Residential streets are densely populated by a mix of two-story cottages, American Foursquares and Dutch Colonial Revivals. Victorian-style homes stand out among the streetscapes with wrap-around porches and grand turrets. Most houses were built from the turn of the 20th century through the mid-1900s, and while some properties are over a century old, many have been completely remodeled and balance their historic charm with modern amenities. Homebuyers will find that most houses have driveways or rear-entry garages, but some properties offer street parking. Home prices typically range from $50,000 for a property needing repair to $175,000 for a home with recent renovations. There are also several duplexes, which sell for $75,000 to $165,000.Dual enrollment program at Rochester Area High School
The borough is served by the Rochester Area School District, which earns a C from Niche and has an average student-teacher ratio of 11-to-1. Students can begin their education at the B-minus-rated Rochester Area Elementary School before moving on to Rochester Middle School, which earns a C. Rochester Area High School scores a C-plus, and its College in High School program allows teens to simultaneously earn both high school and college credit. All college-level courses are taught on the high school’s campus in collaboration with the Community College of Beaver County, the University of Pittsburgh, Seton Hill University and Pittsburgh Technical College.Playground and water activities at Rochester Riverfront Park
As its name suggests, Rochester Riverfront Park is located at the confluence of the Ohio and Beaver Rivers. A 2-mile paved walking path runs parallel to the water, while picnic shelters and benches provide ample opportunities for passive recreation. The park also has a small wooden playground with a swing set. The park sits between the Rochester Boat Club, a small marina with space for boats, and the Rochester Boat Ramp, a popular destination for paddlers and anglers looking to access the rivers. In the center of town, Rochester Park features a circular plaza with benches and a war memorial dedicated to Veterans. The Rochester Area Baseball and Softball Organization has served the community for over 50 years, playing at several ballfields located along the northeastern edge of Rochester Borough. The sports complex also has a playground and a picnic shelter. The Rochester Public Library hosts programs for all ages, including weekly story times for children. The borough is less than 4 miles from the expansive Brady’s Run Park, which spans over 2,000 acres and is the largest green space in Beaver County. The park features an outdoor sports complex, an indoor recreation center with an ice rink and a 28-acre lake with opportunities for swimming, boating and fishing. Brady’s Run Park is a destination for annual festivities such as the Beaver County Maple Syrup & Music Festival, which brings thousands of people to the park each April for a weekend full of family-friendly activities, live entertainment and maple-themed treats.
Annual events include Beaver County Boom on the Bridge
Rochester Riverfront Park is a destination for community events like the Beaver Valley Rocking on the River Music Festival. Held each summer, it features local bands playing everything from rock to country music. The park is also one of several sites for the annual Beaver County Boom on the Bridge, which features one of the biggest fireworks displays in Western Pennsylvania. The fireworks launch at dusk from the nearby Veterans Bridge, and locals gather in the park beforehand to enjoy live music, food trucks and a car show.Pennsylvania Route 65 connects residents to Pittsburgh
The Beaver County Transit Authority provides local bus service to the community, with several routes serving the Rochester Transportation Center. The bus stop is off Brighton Avenue in front of the BCTA headquarters and provides service to Pittsburgh, making several stops along the way. Residents have access to Pennsylvania Route 65, which runs parallel to the Ohio River and leads about 27 miles southeast to Pittsburgh. The Rochester-Beaver Railroad Bridge crosses over the Beaver River, providing access to Pennsylvania Route 68 and Interstate 376. Pittsburgh International Airport is about a 20-mile drive away via I-376.Proximity to a hospital in the Heritage Valley Health System
