Beverly Park offers a rural and urban feel in Rockford

On the northwestern side of Rockford, Beverly Park offers quiet suburban living surrounded by parks. “It kind of faces into a rural setting on the northwest side,” says real estate agent Mike Lunde with Gambino Realtors. “You’ve got a city and rural mix, so it draws people looking for both lifestyles.” However, Auburn Street is just south of the neighborhood, connecting the community with western Rockford’s restaurants along Main Street. With downtown Rockford just a few miles away, residents can still feel connected to the city, while still coming home to their quiet community at the end of the day.

Bungalows, Cape Cods and ranches throughout Beverly Park

Beverly Park features a mix of bungalows, Cape Cods and ranch-style homes, all selling between $25,000 and $100,000. Trees are sparse here, so the streets have a more open feel. Many people allow their dogs to run freely within the chain-link fences enclosing their properties, but they can still walk them to a nearby park along the well-maintained sidewalks.

Classes at the community center and walking to Beverly Park

Tucked away in the southwestern corner of the neighborhood is a playground and baseball diamond at Bressler Park. While it may be a smaller park than others around the city, it is within walking distance of homes. Mel Anderson Bike Path also runs through the park—this paved bike path stretches for 3 miles to connect various parks in western Rockford. It also stops along the Northwest Community Center. Serving the area for over 75 years, the NWCC offers educational courses and programs for kids, adults and seniors. North of Beverly Park is Rockford BMX, which has classes for beginners and open houses for more experienced bikers at its track inside Searls Park, an expansive community green space with walking trails, baseball fields and a dog park. About a mile beyond the BMX track, visitors ride horses instead at the Lockwood Park and Trailside Equestrian Center, located next to the trails and disc golf course at the Anna Page Forest Preserve.

While this is a largely car-dependent community, buses line Auburn Street and Kilburn Avenue to connect residents with downtown Rockford, just over 2 miles south. Kilburn Avenue also links residents with Javon Bea Hospital-Rockton, about 1 mile from Beverly Park. For those traveling beyond Rockford, Chicago Rockford International Airport is about 10 miles south.

Chinese and Norwegian cuisine around Beverly Park

Between Auburn and Main streets, Beverly Park residents have many restaurants to choose from. When residents don’t feel like cooking, Wong Wong Chinese Restaurant offers Chinese fare for takeout only, making it a quick and easy option for Rockford residents. Along Main Street, The Olympic Tavern offers everything from sandwiches and pasta to seafood. On nice days, people sit on the patio, which comes with umbrellas to protect patrons from the sun. The Norwegian brings traditional Scandinavian cuisine to Rockford, like its aebleskiver—a Danish pancake. For groceries, Aldi and Walmart are just 1.5 miles up Kilburn Avenue.

Downtown Rockford's farmers' markets and holiday parades

Because Beverly Park is so close to downtown Rockford, residents can head downtown for events and annual traditions. Lunde highlights that the Coronado Theater is a popular destination, hosting touring Broadway plays and supporting local theater troupes. For the Fourth of July, Rockford celebrates with three parades through the city and a fireworks show synced to music in Davis Park along the river. Across the Fox River, Friday Night Rockford City Market draws the city out to shop local producers and vendors every Friday night.
