With the city's charming, historic downtown nearby, easy access to commuter-friendly Interstate 30 and its big, beautiful namesake park center stage, it's clear why folks might be drawn to the Harry Myers Park area of Rockwall, Texas. "The area was named after one of the largest and nicest parks in all of Rockwall and has a lot to offer, both north and south of Interstate 30," says Heather Sims, broker/owner of the Elysian Agency. "To the north, you're near -- and can be a walkable distance -- to Rockwall's cute downtown with the old county courthouse, shops, restaurants and a local farmers market on Saturday mornings. And in the southern part of the area, you have newer homes with larger lots and convenient accessibility to I-30, which takes you into downtown Dallas in about 30 minutes."

The Harry Myers Park area boasts an eclectic mix of houses with different styles, ages and price points. From a charming, 2,300-square-foot Craftsman-style home built in 1911 near Rockwall's historic downtown to a contemporary-style four-bed with 3,600 square feet built in 2017. "Homes vary a lot throughout the area," Sims says. "You can find some of the oldest houses in Rockwall near the downtown area and some of the newest along John King Boulevard." With the varied types of homes, there's also a wide range of list prices, from $279,000 to $789,000. "Like most homes in Rockwall, the homes in the Harry Myers Park area still quickly if they're priced right and marketed well," Sims adds.

Area kids attend schools in the highly-regarded Rockwall Independent School District. Students living north of Interstate 30 near the area's namesake city park find themselves at Dobbs Elementary for pre-kindergarten through sixth grades, Utley Middle for grades seven and eight, and finally, Rockwall High School, rated an A by Niche. Youngsters who live south of the interstate also find themselves at Utley Middle and attend Dorris A. Jones for elementary school and Rockwall-Heath High School, which also earns an A rating from Niche.

This part of Rockwall gets its name from the 73 acres of green space known as Harry Myers Park, which sits the area's northern end. Park visitors have a seemingly endless number of outdoor amenities to enjoy, including a disc golf course, playgrounds, a skate park, walking trails, a swimming pool, tennis courts, sports fields and a fishing pond. There's also a dog park for your four-legged friends and an amphitheater for fun outdoor concerts and events, like Rockwall's annual Founder's Day Festival, where you can listen to live music, browse vendor booths, grab a bite from a food truck and much more. Before you leave the park, stop by the Rockwall County Historical Foundation Museum to learn more about Rockwall's history, browse local historical artifacts and see a sample section of the mysterious underground pre-historic rock wall the city and county were named after.

A quick walk from the park takes you to Rockwall's historic downtown area, where you can grab a slice of citrus chiffon cake or a giant peanut butter cookie from the family-owned Wild Daisy Dessert Bar, or when your belly is truly grumbling, indulge in a tasty burger creation, like the PBJ Bacon Burger, at Wells Cattle Co. Restaurant & Market. If you prefer surf over turf, visit Pier 101 Seafood Bar & Grill for a zesty Cajun shrimp boil, crab-topped red snapper or cornmeal-battered fried oysters. Next, browse some of the locally-owned downtown stores and boutiques, like Morrison Guitar Shop, where you can pick up a hand-crafted, vintage-inspired six-string acoustic, or Poe & Arrows boutique, which features a fun, eclectic selection of women's apparel and accessories. It doesn't matter whether you're a foodie, a fashionista or Fido's regular ride to the dog park; there's a good chance you'll feel right at home in the Harry Myers Park area of Rockwall.
