Tavola
Two different residential sections within a single neighborhood
Tavola has two distinct housing markets, one on each side of the interstate, and many homes are situated close together, with small yards. “The east side is the original Tavola, which is more high-end,” Buish says. “The west side is more affordable. I would say most of the homes are modern, traditional styles.” Homes on the west side typically cost between $220,000 and $400,000, while prices on the east side usually start around $350,000 and can range to above $600,000. “The prices are middle-of-the-road at $250,000 for most of those homes, which makes it really affordable for families to get into that neighborhood,” Buish says. Tavola has a CAP Index crime score of 4 out of 10, equal to the national average.Students are served by the New Caney Independent School District
Tavola Elementary School is located within the neighborhood and serves kindergarten through fifth grade. The school gets a C-plus rating from Niche. Students can then move on to Keefer Crossing Middle School, which scores a B-minus, and the B-rated New Caney High School. Extracurricular programs at New Caney High include band and orchestra, yearbook, theatre and the Bluebonnets dance team.Recreational amenities within Tavola
Residents have access to several resort-like amenities within Tavola, so they often don’t need to leave the neighborhood for outdoor recreation. “Tavola has walking trails, a rec center and a pool,” Buish says. “You’ll see a lot of people walking and they have a zipline for the kids.” The swimming pool features a splash pad, the trails accommodate both walking and biking and the rec center hosts programs and events. Further afield but less than 5 miles north, Big Rivers Water Park & Adventures has slides, zip lines and splash pads. Anglers can fish in Caney Creek, which lines portions of the neighborhood’s southern boundary.Highway travel into Houston on Interstate 69
Interstate 69, which runs concurrently with U.S. Route 59, cuts through the community and splits it in half, connecting Tavola with Houston, less than 35 miles south. “Both neighborhoods have great access to 59 and 69, so for anyone who wants to commute to downtown, that makes it really nice,” Buish says.CareNow Urgent Care – Kingwood Northpark and Elite Hospital Kingwood are among the closest medical centers, both around 10 miles south down the interstate. George Bush Intercontinental Airport is under 20 miles south and is served by over two dozen airlines that cover a broad range of both domestic and international destinations.
Diners and shoppers head south to the Valley Ranch Town Center
Tavola residents can find dining and shopping outlets on Farm to Market Road 1485, about 3 miles south of the neighborhood. Along with numerous chain restaurants, diners can find international fare at Express Chinese Food or Pollos Asados El Regio. Ice House and Bar 1485 offers a classic bar atmosphere, with pool tables, karaoke nights and live music. Grocery shoppers can head to a Food Town or Walmart, which are each less than 3 miles south in the same area.Slightly farther south, but still less than 5 miles from Tavola, the Valley Ranch Town Center has more dining and shopping options. “There is a lot of retail there,” Buish says. “There is a great Mexican food restaurant called Gringo’s Mexican Kitchen, which is one of my favorites. Those are all right at the Grand Parkway.” Valley Ranch Town Center is home to more than 60 retail and service providers, as well as more than 30 different restaurants, a Cinemark Theatre, and the New Caney ISD aquatic center and Randall Reed Stadium.
Holiday traditions in Tavola
The Tavola community puts on annual events, including holiday-themed festivities. The Easter in the Park Egg Hunt takes place at Tavola Elementary, while the Tavola Reindeer Run consists of a pair of events: a 1K run-or-walk for families and a standard 5K race.
