Hillcrest
Unique homes
There is no shortage of variety in housing styles in Hillcrest. “It’s always been a popular neighborhood because it has really unique homes,” says Tracy Hightower of Lyron Real Estate, who has two decades of experience in Roseville. The curving streets feature Craftsman homes from the 1940s, modern, large homes from the early 2000s and sloped-roof bungalows. Prices range from $300,000 to $825,000 depending on the age and size of the houses, but most are in the $450,000 to $600,000 range. The majority of homes have sizable yards with plenty of room for entertaining or installing a private pool. Attached garages and long driveways are also prominent features. Mature oak trees shade the wide sidewalks, which are ideal for walking the dog. The streets are quiet, with mostly residential traffic, and often lead to cul-de-sacs.Eich Middle School shines
Kids attend the Roseville City Elementary School District, beginning at George Cirby Elementary School, which holds a B-minus grade on Niche. Next is the A-rated Warren T. Eich Middle School, which is ranked as one of the most diverse middle schools in California. Teens attend Oakmont High School, part of the Roseville Joint Union High School District. Oakmont has an A-minus Niche rating and is known for its International Baccalaureate program and Health Careers Academy. St. Rose Catholic School is a K-8 private option located in the neighborhood.Fun at Saugstad Park
Saugstad Park has been a neighborhood staple since 1975. It features two baseball/softball fields and playground equipment. Saugstad also has a dog park where owners can let their pups have some off-leash fun. The park also serves as the jumping-off point for the Saugstad and Royer Park Trail, a 3.2-mile out-and-back trail popular with runners and cyclists. Bordering the park to the west is Dry Creek, a popular spot for trout fishing. Planet Fitness off Harding Boulevard is the go-to spot for locals to pump iron. Thrill seekers visit iFLY Indoor Skydiving where participants can replicate the experience of skydiving from the comforts of an indoor simulator.Roseville Plaza shopping
The Roseville Plaza shopping center off Harding offers a Trader Joe’s and Grocery Outlet for convenient grocery shopping. The shopping center also has an Ace Hardware and a Starbucks. Umi Sushi is a casual spot for locals to grab a roll located just south of Douglas Boulevard. Further west off Douglas is Baker Ben’s Donuts, where residents kickstart the day with an apple fritter and a cup of coffee. Morenita Taqueria serves authentic Mexican classics with an upscale twist. The eatery has brightly colored walls and patio seating, perfect for enjoying a happy hour margarita. Throughout the neighborhood, strip malls offer retail options.Right off I-80
With Interstate 80 bordering the neighborhood to the east, it’s easy for locals to commute to Rocklin or 19 miles down the road to Sacramento. The highway also provides easy access to the Bay Area and Lake Tahoe for weekend trips. For local travel, the Roseville Transit buses have frequent stops on Douglas Boulevard and other main roads in Hillcrest.
