Eidson Road is growing steadily
Mesquite and palm trees line the streets of Eidson Road, a neighborhood on the south side of Eagle Pass. The community is just off the wooded shores of the Rio Grande River, only 3 miles from the Mexico-United States border. According to Francisco Mauricio, a Realtor with La Cantera Real Estate, Eidson Road has come a long way. “I grew up in Eidson Road. I’ve seen pictures of me as a baby, and the road was actually just a dirt path then. Now it’s paved. It’s busy. There are homes, businesses and food stands.”
As of late 2024, a new developmental wave has brought dozens of new construction properties to the community, trending with the city’s overall revival. Downtown Eagle Pass, 2 miles up the road, is getting a multimillion-dollar facelift. The city’s second International Bridge, less than a mile from the neighborhood, is set for expansion. And a private international bridge is in the works. While Eidson Road remains predominantly residential, Mauricio says this might change in the coming years. “We’re talking maybe 5 years or more, but it’s going to grow rapidly,” he says. “The city wants to add a big commercial boulevard once everything is open.”

Eagle Pass has no shortage of good restaurants, and many local spots are clustered around Eidson Road. Early risers can start the day with a hearty meal at La Cabañita Breakfast Tacos, open six days a week from 6 a.m. to noon. Gaona’s Mexican Bite and Garcia’s Restaurant serve traditional Mexican cuisine on El Indio Highway. Rogelio’s Meat Market sells Texan barbecue, authentic barbacoa and more locally sourced meats. Chain restaurants like Fuddruckers and big-box stores like Walmart are 2 miles away on Bibb Avenue.

A mix of ranch-style homes and new construction
Aside from the growing number of new construction houses with sleek and blocky contemporary designs, the community features a mix of older ranch-style and manufactured homes. Many were built between the ‘70s and ‘90s. “Families have been there a long time now. Neighbors know each other’s names.” Lots typically measure between a quarter and a half of an acre. List prices range from $150,000 to $350,000.

Eagle Pass Independent School District
The Edison Road community is served by the Eagle Pass Independent School District. Henry B. Gonzalez Elementary earns a C on Niche, Memorial Junior High is graded C-plus, and C. C. Winn High has a B-minus. Home of the Mavericks, the high school has a longstanding rivalry with the Eagle Pass High Eagles, according to Mauricio. “It’s pretty competitive. The kind of rivalry where they paint the mascots and tee-pee the statue in front of the school. I mean, It’s Texas. Football is life here.”
The Nick Carr Sports Complex
While there are a couple of pocket parks and neighborhood playgrounds throughout the community, the Nick Carr Sports Complex is Eidson Road’s largest recreational space. The complex features a soccer field and two ballfields, including the Alex Alvarez Softball Field. “Baseball and softball are really popular here. Parents go all out for the kids, and the high school teams are getting closer and closer to state champs,” Mauricio says.
