A small, up-and-coming community in New York
In Malta, residents enjoy the benefits of a shiny new community that's filled with a booming tech industry, great outdoor recreation and advanced academic programs. The Town of Malta has sprung up over the past decade, so the area has a nice, new feel to it, says Joli Chamberlain, a Realtor with RE/MAX Solutions, with nearly two decades of experience in the Greater Capitol Region.
Global Foundries is a major contributor to the area's development, according to Chamberlain. Residents have largely welcomed the semiconductor and nanotechnology manufacturer since it made Malta its home in 2021. Cindy Quade, a broker/owner of Signature One Realty Group, LLC, who has over three decades of experience in the area, also says Global Foundries has brought in a lot of businesses like daycares, dry cleaners and grocery stores. "We've got over 250 new businesses in Malta, so we pretty much have all the services that people need," she says. "And what I think is really special is that it still has a hometown feel."

New construction and natural backyards
Still, like much of the region, the housing market currently has a critically low inventory. "Homes stay on the market, one, two, maybe three days," says Chamberlain. On the upside, there is a lot of new traditional-style construction going on, which ranges from $450,000 to $650,000. Townhomes sit in the high $300,000s range, with wooded backyards. For single-family homes, the price range falls between $350,000 to 500,000, with ranch-style homes and colonials sprinkled throughout the neighborhood. Most homes have wooded backyards and modest driveways that lead directly to the road.

Kids may advance to B-rated Ballston Spa Middle School, which offers students low-cost recreational programs, before moving on to Ballston Spa Senior High School. This school seems to also have a B from Niche, and a Tec-Smart Program, where students earn college credit as they learn robotics and computer sciences in state-of-the-art facilities at the Global Foundries campus. The University of Albany is 24 miles away.

Sit at the Speedway, shop at yard sales
Chamberlain lived in Malta for five years and says what she misses the most is how laid her neighbors were. "There are a lot of barbecues, family picnics and yard sales," Chamberlain says. "It's one large community." For a taste of Malta's hometown flavor, residents visit the heart of town, where the Albany-Saratoga Speedway is. Stock cars rip around a dirt track thrilling crowds throughout the racing season. The Malta Drive-In Theatre offers an old-school cinematic experience, with two screens showing feature films and an extensive snack bar.

Awesome place, wouldn't want to live anywhere else. A great mix of suburb and town life. Many, many apartment complexes, many places to work, such as Global Foundries or KAPL. Ballston Spa High School is excellent, and there are plenty of stores and restaurants.

I love living in Malta! My neighborhood is very quiet and has a lot of physically active people. A grocery store and a few fast food restaurants are within walking distance. Malta is still a growing city and has a lot of potential!
