Older homes in good condition
This historic, walkable neighborhood features different styles throughout its history, from Italianate to Colonial Revival single-family homes. The neighborhood reflects the lifestyle of the late 19th century, where homes on the west side of Saginaw were more focused on comfort and practicality, while the more ornate homes were located on the city's east side. “The neighborhood is less than a mile from Old Town, the Riverfront district, and southeast of the Adams Boulevard neighborhood, arguably one of the nicest in the city,” says says Brian Keenan-Lechel, Director at Saginaw County Parks and Recreation. Single-family homes in the area commonly sell for between $64,000 and $100,000.Several parks near Downtown Saginaw
Roeser Park serves as the neighborhood park. In conjunction with Saginaw County, the neighborhood association hosts summer programs such as playdates at the park’s playground. “Celebration Park is directly across the street, accessible via Court Avenue, next to our YMCA,” says Keenan-Lechel. “Our splash pad is a big hit in the summer, and in the winter months, Hoyt Park has a great sledding hill.” Ojibway Island, an island park in downtown Saginaw, provides views of the Saginaw River as locals walk through the park. The island hosts Fourth of July fireworks and ice fishing each winter.Million-dollar investment into new high school
The neighborhood’s primary public school options include Herig Elementary School, which scores a C-minus on Niche. Students then attend Thompson Middle School, which also scores a C-minus, for grades seven and eight. Arthur Hill High School, which served as the former community high school, has now consolidated with Saginaw High School to form Saginaw United High. This five-story, multi-million dollar building serves about 1,200 students.Local events celebrate Saginaw's street art
