On the north side of the neighborhood, State Street has a several places to shop, eat and hang out. “All of your necessities are about 2 minutes away,” says Marquaveon McKinney, a local Realtor with Bay Realty Michigan, who grew up in Saginaw. “You have grocery stores, salons, restaurants. It’s a pretty high traffic area.” Locals can watch sports over wings and drinks at Grand Central, and the lively dive bar Rascals has been around since the 1980s. Dollar Tree and Family Dollar are in the area, and Green Acres Plaza is about a mile away with a Kroger, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet and a few Asian restaurants, including Shahi Indian Cuisine and Little Koi, known for its poke bowls.

The new high school combined students from the former Arthur Hill High School with students from Saginaw High School. What was once Arthur Hill High is now Saginaw Arts & Sciences Academy, an application-based charter school right in the neighborhood. The A-rated school is ranked the best high school in Saginaw.
