Cranston Meadows Park's winding streets and rolling hills
Cranston Meadows Park’s streets curve and bend with the rolling hills, lined with Colonial Revivals, New Traditionals and ranch-style homes with the occasional custom build. Most properties feature manicured lawns stretching all the way to the curb on lots that can span an entire acre. Homes here typically range between $375,000 and $750,000, with houses built more recently selling higher.Horseback riding and golfing around Cranston Meadows Park
In the heart of the neighborhood, Cranston Meadows Park is a flat open space where kids can run or play on the playground. Some homes back the park, while others are within walking distance. On the northern side of Cranston Meadows Park, Otter Creek Forest Preserve offers walking trails through restored wetlands and prairies. The Canadian National Railroad bisects the preserve, but underpasses allow pedestrians to cross safely. Along 616 acres of rolling hills, Bowes Creek Country Club’s public golf course offers five sets of tees to accommodate golfers at different skill levels. Originally founded in 1835, the Historic Corron Farm showcases the area’s rural and agricultural history with wagon rides through the fields or tours of the historic homes, though many people also come to the site to walk their dogs along the grass paths between fields. Just to the west, Wayne Equestrian Center offers riding lessons to riders as young as eight.Athletic opportunities at Saint Charles North High
For kindergarten through fifth grade, students in Cranston Meadows Park can attend Ferson Creek Elementary, before continuing to Thompson Middle School. Niche awards both schools A rankings. Saint Charles North High School earns an A-plus and ranks as the 15th-best high school in the state for athletes, offering sports like rugby, badminton and water polo.South Elgin's summer car show and local farmers markets
When looking for a farmers market, Cranston Meadows Park residents might have to drive a little farther than those closer to the bigger towns. “Elgin has the farmers markets, Saint Charles has the farmers markets,” Hale says. “South Elgin—not really.” The farmers markets in both cities run from June to October on Friday afternoons, offering fresh fruit and baked goods. However, South Elgin has its own community events. Once a month in the summer, Car Show Cruise Nights encourages those with vintage and antique cars to bring them out for the community to see. To the west of the community, Historic Corron Farm hosts Prairie Fest every August with wagon rides around the grounds, live music and raffles.Situated between downtown Elgin and downtown Saint Charles
Because this community is more secluded and private, Cranston Meadows Park residents depend on their cars to get around. In the northern part of the community past its main commercial area, Hopps Road connects residents with downtown South Elgin, 4.5 miles away along the Fox River. Cranston Meadows Park sits about equal distance between Elgin and Saint Charles, with both cities about 7.5 miles away, connected by state Route 31. While Randall Road offers supermarkets and restaurants, it also links residents to an Ascension Saint Joseph hospital, about 6 miles north in Elgin. Those commuting can take I-90 the 45.5 miles to downtown Chicago, bypassing Chicago O’Hare International Airport, 36.5 miles away.Supermarkets and restaurants along Randall Road
The shops and restaurants on South Randall Road serve communities throughout the South Elgin and Saint Charles areas, but Cranston Meadows Park residents are just 1.5 miles away for increased convenience to this hub. “That area is a quarter mile from Randall Road, which has enormous benefits,” says Dominic Levita, real estate agent with Providence Residential Brokerage. “You have retail and restaurants. Everything is along there.” Over here, residents can stop in supermarkets like Jewel-Osco, Target and Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Markets. JuRin offers Japanese fare, with sushi, ramen and bento boxes on the menu, along with hibachi grills throughout the dining area. The Village Squire combines Greek and American cuisine with menu items like saganaki, gyros and souvlaki alongside burgers and cheese curds.
