Laid-back riverfront living with quick access to daily amenities
Fox River Heights offers secluded waterfront living, supported by a lush residential landscape and nearby forest preserves in the Chicagoland suburbs near South Elgin. This area along the Fox River, known affectionately as “the big bend,” encompasses the entire area west of the Tekakwitha Woods Forest Preserve. “It sits right on the river,” says Christine Currey, a local Realtor with The Currey Koertgen Team with RE/MAX All Pro. “It’s really beautiful and adds a sense of calm to the community.” Though homes situated on and back from the riverfront comprise most of the community, residents don’t have to go more than 4 miles to shop along South Randall Road or explore the local restaurants of downtown St. Charles.
Fox River Heights is located in the vibrant, award-winning city of St. Charles, IL.

Exploring wildlife at Tekakwitha Woods Forest Preserve
The waterway runs along Tekakwitha Woods Forest Preserve’s naturally worn pedestrian paths, granting panoramic views of the water as residents bike or stroll through the woodlands. Those visiting during warmer months are greeted with wildflowers that grow along the winding foot trails, the calls of solitary sandpipers, and migratory species like the tree swallow. Adjacent to the preserve is River Bend Community Park, home to a traditional playground where little ones take turns on the swing and pups run loose at the on-site Dog Park. Additional nearby green spaces include both Fox River Bluff East Forest Preserve and Fox River Bluff West County Forest Preserve.
Tekakwitha Woods Forest Preserve is the perfect place for an afternoon bike ride.

Late 1900s ranchers and recently built New Traditional styles
Running parallel to quiet residential streets are the high-reaching canopies of evergreen, silver maple and oak trees, which supply shade for afternoon walks through the community. Comprising most of the foreground are mid-to-late 1900s ranch-style homes, while a handful of New Traditional styles have popped up in recent years. Despite this range in architectural styles, shrubbery lining the front of homes and occasional flowering bushes like crape myrtles are present throughout the community. Meanwhile, homes situated along the riverfront come paired with private docks and wide driveways to accommodate boat trailers. Prices range from $200,000 to $450,000, while larger contemporary builds and waterfront properties can reach up to $725,000.

Along the stretch, The Graceful Ordinary pairs Fox River views with upscale rustic-style menu offerings. McNally’s Pub sits across the river on its eastern side, where traditional Irish pub-style dishes like shepherd's pie and potato leek soup pair well with a pint of Guinness.

Ringing in the season at Holiday Homecoming
“Downtown [St. Charles] is walkable and charming,” Curren says. “It’s also where many events are held that bring residents from all regions of St. Charles together.” Over 85 handmade scarecrows are spread across the city in mid-October for the annual Scarecrow Weekend. Alongside voting for their favorite creations, those in attendance enjoy live music while checking out the work of professional pumpkin carvers. The city welcomes folks to 1st Street Plaza in late November for Holiday Homecoming. This weekend-long celebration includes the Electric Christmas Parade, a free holiday movie screening at Arcada Theatre and other family-friendly events.
