Laid-back, rural community close to Bayou La Batre

With woodsy, rural lots spread between Bayou La Batre and West Mobile, Fowl River offers pastoral living a short drive from downtown. Life moves at a slower pace in the neighborhood, which is named for a nearby waterway. "It's a small, rural area, but people tend to stay put there. The majority of residents have lived there for generations," says Realtor Brooks Beck with Beck Properties. Beck opened the agency with his wife, Hon Beck, in 2021. "It's also just outside of Bayou La Batre, our primary seafood area, so many residents are working down there." In contrast to its laidback vibe, the neighborhood is close to the high-octane fun of Mobile International Speedway, which hosts car races and holiday light shows.

Buyers will primarily find ranch-style homes and smaller cottages. Many yards have room for sheds, workshops or RV storage. Residents tend to stay in Fowl River, so sales are infrequent.
