Bayview
Surrounded by nature preserves, marinas and Gulf beaches
With Clam Bayou at Bayview’s center, a marina on one side and a preserve on the other, there’s no shortage of opportunities to explore the outdoors. “The area is a water lover’s dream,” Horobec says. “Between the beach and getting out on the Bay, the primary attraction here is the water.” The 10-acre Clam Bayou Nature Park contains a mangrove forested preserve home to a clam estuary, crabs, birds, dolphins and manatees. The park has boat launches, fishing docks, a 1-mile boardwalk and observation decks with views of the bayou and Boca Ciega Bay. There are access points for kayakers and canoers to paddle through the city’s Blue Ways Trail System. Gulfport Municipal Marina offers public boat ramps and rental slips. Anglers without a boat can also get out on the water with one of the many fishing guide services there. Gulfport Beach Recreation Area sits 3 miles west of the neighborhood and is one of the most heavily visited spots for its unique restaurants, shops and outdoor activities. Williams Pier is popular with anglers, and the recreation area also has beach volleyball, bocce ball, a fenced-in playground and 7 acres of public beach. The Twin Brooks Golf Course is within the neighborhood and has a 9-hole course and pro shop. The 245-acre Boyd Nature Preserve is 3 miles east and popular for camping and hiking.Historic bungalows and waterfront cottages
Surrounded by water and towering oaks, Bayview residents enjoy privacy and tranquility. The neighborhood is filled with historic Florida and Craftsman-style bungalows, two-story coastal cottages and ranch-style homes. Most homes were built in the mid-1940s and ‘50s, but many homes date back to the ‘20s. Prices range from the high-$200,000s for a three-bedroom over 1,000 square feet to around $800,000 for a renovated four- or five-bedroom home over 2,000 square feet. There are a few million-dollar homes directly on the water that have been completely remodeled. “It’s some of the best price points in the state,” Horobec says. “There’s also not a sense of people who live here trying to outdo each other.” Some homes are in gated communities; others are waterfront homes with private docks, multi-car garages and in-ground pools on quarter-acre lots. Most homes have small lawns, around 7,000 square feet, with tropical landscaping, rear garage parking and cozy front porches. There is ample street parking, and driveways are spacious enough for boats or other toys. Condos are also available in the Bermuda Beach Bay and the gated West Shore Village subdivisions. Prices range from the low-$200,000s for a one-bedroom to the mid-$300,000s for a three-bedroom. Condo residents can access pickleball and tennis courts, two pools and shuffleboard. All residents are within walking distance of parks, a nature preserve, the bayou and a marina.Three miles from Gulfport Waterfront District
Walmart Supercenter is convenient for essentials in the neighborhood, and Family Dollar and Save-A-Lot are along Gulfport Boulevard. Bayview offers a few locally owned dining options. Taste of the Islands is a Jamaican restaurant known for its jerk and curry dishes. The humble shack Hookin’ Ain’t Easy is a community favorite with dishes like Wahoo dip, conch fritters, snapper sandwiches and raw oysters. The eatery also has a walk-up, beach-style bar. The next closest options are in Gulfport’s historic Waterfront District on Beach Boulevard. The always buzzing strip, less than 3 miles away, offers independent shops, boutiques, galleries and restaurants, all within walking distance of each other. Pia’s Trattoria is a Tuscan-themed eatery where locals rave about its shrimp scampi, chicken piccata and espresso martinis. Gulfport Brewery is the go-to spot for craft beers, live music and pub fare. Decorated with pink paper streamers, bistro lights and flamingos, The Wine House + BBQ is a popular local spot. It offers a diverse wine menu, charcuterie boards, and heaping platters of brisket and pulled pork. Stella’s is a Southern-inspired eatery offering comfort dishes and Bloody Marys. O’Maddy’s Bar & Grille on Shore Boulevard is a popular hang for waterfront dining with dishes like crab cakes, lobster BLTs and grouper sandwiches. The pub has a patio with regular live music. Gulfport Fresh Market occurs every Tuesday year-round, selling fresh produce and locally made products. For more entertainment, Bayview residents aren’t too far from downtown or the Central Station District. “Because it’s so close to St. Pete, you’re close to everything you need,” says Horobec.Home to the top school district in Tampa
