Childs Park
City blocks packed with beach bungalows and ranch-style homes
Childs Park’s wide, paved residential streets are arranged in a modified grid pattern, with about 16 homes packed on each rectangular city block. Most of the homes here were built between the 1940s and 50s. There are beach bungalows with wide front porches next to brightly colored ranch-style homes, along with some cozy minimal traditionals. Some contemporary builds with asymmetrical designs and flat roofs have recently replaced older, abandoned homes throughout the neighborhood. Yards in Childs Park are kept simple, with patchy beach grass lawns shaded by tall palm trees and moss-covered oaks. These two-to-three-bedroom listings usually range between $250,000 and $400,000, but some fixer-uppers can be found for around $150,000.Find fresh seafood at Hookin' Ain't Easy
Although a few miles from the shore, Childs Park reflects St. Petersburg’s love of the ocean in its retail stores and restaurants. Locals can ride bikes to Shady Side Meat and Grocery for all the everyday necessities or head to JB’s Seafood Market to find fresh-caught fish and live crabs. Run by a local fisherman, Hookin’ Ain’t Easy serves a surf and turf menu with live music in a Jimmy Buffet-style outdoor setting. Those looking to grab a quick bite can head through the drive-thru at Salem’s Fresh Eats and order a fried shrimp gyro with a side of Old Bay seasoned fries.Annual events organized by the Childs Park Neighborhood Association
The Childs Park Neighborhood Association, established in 1992, hosts events throughout the year to bring the community together. During the summer season, residents can cool off and have fun at the Summer Friday Night Done Right Pool Party. A Neighborhood Wellness Walk takes place on the fourth Saturday of each month, promoting physical health and mental well-being.Integrated engineering programs at Pinellas County Schools
Students may attend Pinellas County public schools. Pre-schoolers can begin at Fairmont Park Elementary, which scores a C on Niche or Douglas L. Jamerson Junior Elementary. While both schools are public, Douglas L. Jamerson scores a B-plus and offers a magnet program with an integrated engineering curriculum. Sixth graders can transition to Thurgood Marshall Fundamental Middle, which scores an A-minus on Niche. Gibbs High School receives a B grade and offers a real-world simulated business class through its Business, Entrepreneurial and Technological Academy. While Gibbs offers college-level courses, Pinellas Technical College has an extensive dual enrollment program in the neighborhood.Childs Park Rec and Fitness Center is the heart of the community
Childs Park Recreation and Fitness Center is the heart of the community, offering free athletic facilities for all neighbors to use and enjoy. Parents can work out on the treadmills at the indoor gym while children climb around the turf playground or shoot hoops on the basketball courts. Kids can splash around the kiddie pool during the summer and race down the water slides at the rec center’s aquatic complex. Queen Dennis Park is less than a mile bike ride south, offering easy walking trails shaded by moss-covered oaks. From here, locals can follow Skyway Trail to the driving range at Twin Brooks Golf Course or continue south to catch spotted seatrout at the Clam Bayou Nature Preserve.Easy commute downtown or to the Gulf Coast
Childs Park is just a short drive from Downtown St. Petersburg and some of the best beaches on the Gulf Coast. Residents can follow 22nd Avenue east to Interstate 275 and arrive downtown in fewer than 5 miles. Heading the other direction, 22nd Avenue flows into Gulfport Boulevard, bringing drivers to the white sands of St. Pete Beach. St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport sits just 15 miles north along I-275.
