Affordable neighborhood close to beaches and shopping centers
One of the main draws of St. Petersburg is the proximity to the beach and the city’s bustling shopping districts, aspects which the community of Eagle Manor is known for. Bill Thomas, a Realtor for Compass Realty LLC, calls the community home. “The advantage of living in this particular neighborhood, and I call it the triple threat, is this: You’re close to the beach, probably six to ten minutes away; at the edge of the neighborhood, you have the Pinellas Trail, which is a really wonderful option for people who like to stay active – it’s great for rollerblading and riding your bike; and you’re super close to shopping, dining and entertainment options.”
Bungalows and ranch-style houses with a range of amenities
The neighborhood features a standard suburban grid layout. Brick ranch-style homes and mid-century modern abodes line the streets north of the Collegiate High School. Unique, colorful designs add to the architectural diversity, and waterfront homes on small residential lakes are also available. Buying a home in Eagle Manor also means getting a home that has been well taken care of. “The neighborhood is just starting to transition,” says Thomas. “Most of the people who live here have had their homes for years. So new owners are getting wonderful homes they can put their own spin on.” In-ground pools, spacious yards and other renovations are common in the neighborhood. Home prices run from $320,000 for a modest ranch-style house to $700,000 for a spacious Spanish-revival home.
St. Petersburg Collegiate High in the south of the neighborhood
The neighborhood is home to St. Petersburg Collegiate High, a public charter school given an A-plus by Niche that boasts a 99 percent graduation rate. GreatSchools gives it a 10 out of 10 for student progress and college readiness. Adjacent to the high school is the Gibbs campus of St. Petersburg College, which has a library accessible to the community. Younger students can attend Azalea Elementary School and Azalea Middle School, with B and C ratings on Niche, respectively.
Transit and environmental factors
The beaches of Treasure Island and other waterfront communities are just three miles to the west. Downtown St. Petersburg and the I-275 are both seven miles to the east. Public transit stops are available along 66th Street and Tyrone Boulevard. The community is at high risk for flooding and intense storms due to its proximity to the waterfront. The Tampa Bay area suffered significant damage to life and property due to Hurricane Ian in 2022 and Hurricane Idalia in 2023. St. Petersburg has invested millions of dollars into adding and updating existing infrastructure to mitigate the worst effects of storm surges.
Treking Pinellas Trail and nearby beachfront fun
The Pinellas Trail runs along the neighborhood’s west side, following an old railway path that leads north through Clearwater and into Tarpon Springs. Just blocks away is Azalea Park, a sprawling complex with courts and fields to play baseball, softball, soccer, basketball, tennis and pickleball year-round. Waterfront access is less than two miles away. The Intracoastal Waterway allows boaters to access the Gulf of Mexico in minutes. For those looking to enjoy the Gulf’s white-sand beaches, Treasure Island and other waterfront communities just to the west..
Family-owned Italian restaurants and nearby shopping centers
“The community benefits from being close to restaurants, grocery stores, the Tyrone Shopping Center, and the other shopping plazas in the area,” says Kent Rodahaver, a Broker at NextPointe South Realty with 20 years of experience. Llama Java Coffee is a local franchise offering specialty coffees, teas and a range of baked goods. CD Roma is a family-owned Italian restaurant serving up Italian-American favorites. In the same shopping center is a full-service Publix where residents can grab staple groceries. More retail and dining are located along the buzzy 66th Street corridor, where the sprawling Tyrone Square mall anchors a concentration of shops and restaurants.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
