LBGT-friendly neighborhood near downtown St. Pete

From its rainbow murals to its museums and galleries, the Grand Central District wears its art on its sleeve. Located two miles from downtown St. Petersburg between Tampa Bay and the Gulf beaches, the colorful community it is the birthplace of St. Pete Pride and home to over 150 LGBT-owned and ally businesses. "The District is a vibrant and eclectic neighborhood that has preserved its walkable, old main street character and is full of small businesses," says Chris Arnold, Executive Director of the Grand Central District Association. Yet locals enjoy more than just shopping in this neighborhood where they live, work, play and celebrate diversity year-round.

The cornerstone of Grand Central District is its thriving LGBT community. The neighborhood hosted St. Pete Pride from 2003 until recently, when the event was relocated downtown. The neighborhood is still an essential player in the festivities, hosting a Pride Month Kickoff Party and Pride in Grand Central, a street fair with LGBT entertainment, vendors and food. Twenty-two blocks are dedicated to Halloween on Central, with vendors, entertainment and trick-or-treat stops for kids.
