Mangrove Bay
Golf courses are the main attraction here
Mangrove Bay and Cypress Links Golf Courses are the most popular neighborhood amenities. Inside Northeast Park, which has three lit baseball fields, the city-owned courses stretch 180 acres across the eastern half of the neighborhood. Mangrove Bay is an 18-hole course voted one of the best golf courses in Florida by Men’s Health in 2023. Cypress Links is a smaller, 9-hole course with more affordable fees and shorter playing times. Both courses have pro shops, snack bars, a driving range and lessons. The waterfront Edgemoor Park is within walking distance and has walking paths, a playground and mangrove-shaded picnic spaces. One mile south, Puryear Park has trails, tennis courts, soccer fields and a shaded playground. The 3,000-acre Weedon Island Preserve is 5 miles east. Surrounded by the bay waters, the wildlife and mangrove forest preserve has 5 miles of nature trails, a fishing pier and a 45-foot observation tower. The preserve also has a 4-mile boating loop. St. Pete’s Pier is 5 miles south and offers waterfront parks, boating and fishing opportunities stretched across 26 acres. Surrounded by mangroves, the public Gandy Beach is 6 miles north and popular for swimming, camping, paddleboarding and fishing. There’s also a tiki bar near the shoreline called The Getaway.Ranchers and manufactured homes near the bay
Since the golf courses take up over 180 acres of Mangrove Bay, most homes are in the western portion of the neighborhood. The palm and oak-lined community offers single-family ranch-style dwellings and manufactured homes built in the early 1970s. Mobel Americana is a gated 55-plus mobile home subdivision. The waterfront community has two boat ramps, shuffleboard and bocce ball. Prices range from the low-$60,000s for a 1,000-square-foot one-bedroom to the low-$500,000s for a 1,400-square-foot three-bedroom. Lot sizes for manufactured homes are typically 7,000 square feet, and many have private boat docks. Single-family houses are in the Florida Riviera subdivision and range from the low-$200,000s for a 900-square-foot two-bedroom to the high-$500,000s for a 2,200-square-foot three-bedroom. Homes have multi-car garages, spacious paved driveways for boats or other toys and well-kept lawns. Lot sizes average around 9,000 square feet, but some span up to a quarter acre. Some homes have pools, screened-in porches and fenced-in backyards. All residents are within walking or biking distance of the golf courses, the Speer YMCA and Edgemoor Park.Less than 3 miles from shopping and dining
Island Market is 2 miles away and sells prepared foods, wine and other basics. Most other shopping and dining options are 3 miles west along the 4th Street business corridor. Anchored by Publix, Gateway Market Center also provides HomeGoods, Target, CVS and PetSmart. Miller’s Ale House is also in the shopping strip. The sports pub is a favorite for its burgers, steaks and beer. Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods are also along 4th Street. Green Pagoda is an Asian fusion spot offering dumplings, claypot chicken and pork belly buns. St. Pete Bagel Co. is known for its locally roasted coffee, New York-style bagels, house-made cream cheeses and donuts. Rumba Island Bar & Grill is another beloved local place with a tiki bar and Caribbean fare. Downtown St. Petersburg is 7 miles south for more shopping and dining options.Home to the top school district in the Tampa area
Pinellas County Schools serves the community and is the top district in the Tampa area, according to Niche. Students can attend Shore Acres Elementary, a National PTA School of Excellence with a B-plus rating on Niche, followed by Meadowlawn Middle, which has a C-plus. Kids can finish their primary education at Northeast High School, which earns a B-plus from Niche and offers a gaming club and volleyball and tennis teams.Five miles from Downtown St. Pete
Highway 92 is less than 2 miles west of Mangrove Bay, connecting to Route 694 and Interstate 275. These routes provide access to the rest of the area. Downtown St. Petersburg is 5 miles away, St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport is 9 miles away and Tampa is an 18-mile drive over the Howard Frankland Bridge.
