A luxury coastal community near downtown St. Pete
On the shores of Boca Ciega Bay and 3 miles from Gulf beaches, St. Petersburg’s Maximo Moorings blends luxury coastal living surrounded by amenities. Interstate 275 borders its eastern edge, getting residents downtown in less than 7 miles, where diverse shopping, dining and entertainment options await. While big city attractions are a stone’s throw away, its surrounding beaches, wildlife refuges and one of Florida’s largest marinas are why snowbirds are becoming permanent residents. “Our location is probably one of the most desirable locations in the Pinellas County area because we have some of the deepest sailboat water,” says Debbie Zito, Realtor at Compass Florida with 25 years of experience. She lives across the canal in Broadwater and specializes in relocation and waterfront homes. “I’ve been so spoiled, and I love this neighborhood so much that I have a hard time taking people to other neighborhoods. We have the best waterfront, the highest elevation and the deepest canals. There’s nowhere better to be.”

Easy access to marinas, wildlife refuges and trails
Maximo Marina sits on the neighborhood’s northern edge and is a favorite hang for local boaters and deep-sea anglers. The largest full-service covered marina on Florida’s west coast, the 45-acre marina offers over 200 slips, 24-hour security, a boat supplies shop and a snack bar. The 70-acre Maximo Park is 2 miles south and has a popular beach, a disc golf course, seven boat ramps, trails and a playground. The park is the biggest of St. Petersburg’s four archaeological parks. Clam Bayou Nature Park is 3 miles northwest along the shores of the bayou at Gulfport Municipal Marina. The park is home to a deeply forested nature preserve, a clam estuary, and the Blue Ways Trail System, which offers miles of paddling opportunities for boaters to explore. 31st Street Sports Complex is within walking distance of the neighborhood and provides a football field and a multi-purpose field for pickup games. Boyd Hill Preserve is 3 miles east, where hikers can trek through forested trails and make it an overnight trip at one of its camping sites. Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club is 3 miles west across the bridge. Membership is required, but the waterfront club offers a 76-slip yacht harbor, an 18-hole golf course and pickleball courts. St. Pete Beach is 7 miles west for more fun in the sun.

Luxury coastal contemporary homes and waterfront condos
Large mature oaks, palms and tropical landscaping greet newcomers as they enter the neighborhood’s quiet coastal streets. Maximo Moorings is primarily filled with ranch-style homes and coastal contemporary houses. Most homes were built in the early 1960s and range from the mid-$500,000s for a two-bedroom over 1,600 square feet to the mid-$800,000s for a four- or five-bedroom home over 2,500 square feet. There are also a few modern builds and Mediterranean-inspired properties on the waterfront in the Dolphin Kay subdivision that cost over $2 million. Homes in this gated community have private docks, a private beach, three tennis courts, a kayaking area, a clubhouse and a lake with walking trails. Homes have multi-car garages, backyard pools and spacious driveways for boats or other toys. Lot sizes are around 8,000 to 10,000 square feet, but the higher-end homes have lots that stretch up to a quarter acre. Residents are within walking distance of Maximo Moorings’ marina, which completed a $25 million renovation in 2018. There are also a few condominium complexes in the neighborhood, which range from the low-$200,000s for a two-bedroom in the Maximo Moorings Villas subdivision to $680,000 for a waterfront two-bedroom condo in the gated Dolphin Cay community. While it may be tough to get into Maximo Moorings, homes stay on the market longer than the average national time, giving newcomers an advantage. “Competition to live here tends to be high, but rising interest rates have slowed the market,” says Mike Zito, Debbie’s husband and fellow Realtor at Compass Florida, who is also a Realtor at Coastal Properties Group. “The average home stays on the market for about three months.”
