Shore Acres
Boating to nearby restaurants
People use the large green space at Arrowhead Park for picnics, yoga sessions and other outdoor activities. Tennis players work up a sweat on the courts at Denver Park while little ones can explore the fenced playground. For indoor recreation, residents visit Shore Acres Recreation Center for amateur basketball games and youth athletic programs. Golfers visit Mangrove Bay and Cypress Links Golf Courses, which are the closest public courses. The Shore Acres Mini Park has an access point to the water, perfect for fishing and kayaking. “People who live on the water have great boating access to Downtown St. Pete,” Glover says. “It’s 10 minutes by water, so a lot of people just lower their boats and go have dinner. You can’t really do that in a lot of other places.” Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grill is one of the few restaurants that people boat to and offers fresh seafood and a premium rum selection.Biking and booking flights
Residents don’t have to worry much about their safety while biking around town since the area has a crime score of 1 compared to the U.S. average of 4. Interstate 275 is the main highway that helps residents reach work, nearby St. Petersburg and Tampa, which is 19 miles away. Reoccurring flyers can easily reach St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport, just 10 miles away.Colonial and contemporary homes on palm-lined streets
The housing stock in Shore Acres has fewer condos and townhouses compared to other nearby waterfront Florida neighborhoods. According to Glover, smaller single-family homes mostly consist of ranch-style and Colonial Revival architecture. These houses have manicured lawns, are surrounded by tall palm trees, and range from $350,000 to $600,000. There are also larger Mediterranean homes that sit on the bay, ranging from $800,000 to $1.3 million. Contemporary estates with more than 3,000 square feet of living space range from $2 million to $7 million.Co-ed sports at Meadowlawn Middle
Shore Acres has a few different options for public and private schools. For the public school route, kids can attend Shore Acres Elementary School, which earns a B-plus from Niche. Children may advance to Meadowlawn Middle School, which has many athletic programs like flag football and a co-ed hockey team. The school receives a C-plus. Students can move on to Northeast High School, which earns a B-plus from Niche and offers an optional Future Business Leaders of America program. Canterbury School of Florida is the popular private school option and has two campuses — Knowlton and Hough — which both earn an A from Niche. People can also follow their religious practices at churches such as The Gathering Church and Radiant Church.Seasonal fare in Shore Acres
Residents must head outside the neighborhood to run weekly errands. "We only have the one market, Island Market,” Glover says. “It’s in the middle of Shore Acres and it’s our one retail space. We’re still about a mile from Publix and everything like that.” The Publix is in the Northeast Park Shopping Center, along with a Walgreens, Pure Barre and Animal House Naturals Pet Supply Store. The casual Rumba Island Bar & Grill serving "Island-Style" quesadillas and Caribbean pulled pork.Community parades and celebrations
Shore Acres hosts many local events year-round. “We’re a very interactive community. We have tons of neighborhood events like a golf cart parade every year with 300-plus golf carts, and a boat parade, too,” Glover says. The community also holds an annual Easter Egg hunt and Fourth of July celebration, where neighbors keep up the tradition of putting up their American flags every year.
