Snell Isle

Wide variety of housing styles
While residents won’t find any stores or restaurants in Snell Isle, they will find a vast collection of single-family homes displaying an array of architectural styles, which can vary spectacularly from block to block, if not house to house. Prices can range from $350,000 condos to multi-million dollar waterfront estates. Small, understated Florida ranch-style homes mingle with the iconic ornamentation of large Spanish Mediterranean homes. The gabled roofs and porches of farmhouse-style homes contrast with the clean lines and sparse facades of modern-style homes. The occasional bungalow and traditional split-level can be found, as well as Prairie-style homes, whose horizontal-focused architecture originated with Frank Lloyd Wright. “The consumers listing their houses are still getting top dollar and St. Pete is drawing a lot of people from out of state down here,” Gabbard says. “People feel the market down here is really fairly priced.”Visit the resort and golf course
The resort and golf club take up the majority of space not occupied by houses. The Vinoy Golf Club is a sprawling complex that features a state-of-the-art hotel on the grounds of a golf course built almost 100 years ago. The resort offers 60,000 square feet of ballroom space for events and celebratory gatherings, while golf is played on a redesigned 18-hole course that covers more than 6,500 yards. Lessons, practice facilities, a full-sized clubhouse and a golf simulator are among the amenities available to members.Non-traditional green spaces
There are no traditional parks in Snell Isle, but there is a community green space highlighted by a memorial to C. Perry Snell, the community’s founder. Nearby is the entrance to the golf course and its Spanish Mediterranean-style clubhouse – instantly recognizable for its tower and an onion dome minaret. The grounds of the green space also include numerous historical statues, and statues were a big deal to Mr. Snell. The neighborhood is filled with statues of animals – lions, tigers, panthers and mythological griffins. Coffee Pot Park is nearby, as well as the Coffee Pot Bayou Bird Preserve, described as “wonderfully loud” by visitors. Snell Isle is also home to the St. Petersburg Woman’s Club, which, like the golf course, dates to the 1920s. The non-profit organization also provides event space, but its primary mission is community outreach. Projects include volunteer work to help hospice patients, military members and at-risk children among others.Highly rated schools
Students in Snell Isle can attend North Shore Elementary School, which received a B rating from Niche, serves about 450 students and has a student-teacher ratio of 12-to-1. John Hopkins Middle School received a C rating from Niche and serves about 680 students with a student-teacher ratio of 17-to-1. St. Petersburg High School received an A rating from Niche. It has about 1,750 students with a student-teacher ratio of 21 to 1. The school is home to the first International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in the state along with multiple nationally recognized Honor Societies.Nearby retail on 4th Street
Retail and dining options aren’t too far away, as residents only have to travel a short distance west to access the collection of stores and restaurants that line the 4th Street North corridor. “The supermarkets are right off of 4th street so there are plenty of shops and restaurants,” Gabbard says. “We have a new Whole Foods right across the street from Publix and quite a few fine restaurants. There are a lot of things up 4th Street.”Easy highway access
Residents aren’t far from Highway 92 and Interstate 275. They’re also just 3 miles north of Downtown St. Petersburg.
