Tyrone Gardens
Four miles to St. Pete Beach
Tyrone Park is a neighborhood park accessed via a pedestrian bridge. It has a playground and plenty of shaded picnic space. Northwest Park is directly north and has pickleball courts, a community pool and ballfields. Northwest is also home to the J.W. Cate Recreation Center, which offers before- and after-school programming and recreation-league sports teams. The waterfront Jungle Prada de Narvaez Park is 3 miles west and has banyan and palm tree-covered paths, a fishing pier and several boat ramps with direct access to Boca Ciega Bay. St. Pete Beach and Treasure Island are 4 miles away. “That’s one of the best things when people are looking at moving to the area,” says DJ Soucy, Principal Real Estate Agent for DJ Soucy Group, serving the area for seven years. “You’re literally 15 minutes from the beach on a busy traffic day.”Surrounded by shopping, dining and entertainment
Tyrone Gardens Shopping Mall, in the neighborhood’s southwestern corner, offers Winn-Dixie, Big Lots and V9 Eats, a colorful, former service-station-turned-diner with a menu of hot dogs, burritos and sandwiches. Crossroads Shopping Center is 1 mile north along Highway 19. There, shoppers can find Burlington, Party City, T. J. Maxx and Home Depot. One mile beyond Crossroads is Tyrone Square, which offers ALDI, JCPenney and more big-box retailers. Athenian Garden is a nearby Greek restaurant known for its gyro wraps, souvlaki and falafel platters. Casita Taqueria is the go-to spot for authentic Mexican fare, with locals raving about its barbacoa and chipotle-braised chicken tacos. The vibrant Grand Central District, home to diverse dining, shopping and art galleries, is 4 miles east. “On this strip, we have a ton of mom and pops, independent microbreweries, coffee roasters and restaurants,” Soucy says. “The restaurant scene gets better and better each year.”Ramblers for under $500,000
Towering palms and oaks line Tyrone Gardens’ quiet, wide streets. The neighborhood is primarily filled with ranch- and prairie-style homes. “The price points are great for the area,” says Rogers. “The prices in Tyrone Gardens are way below what you find closer to Downtown or the waterfront.” Most homes were built in the early 1950s and range from the low-$200,000s for a two-bedroom over 800 square feet to the low-$400,000s for a three- or four-bedroom over 1,900 square feet. Few homes have garage parking, but driveways and streets are spacious, allowing plenty of room for multiple cars or boats. Most homes sit on lots of around 7,000 square feet, but a few stretch up to a quarter-acre with tropical landscaping and fenced-in backyards. Residents are within walking distance of Tyrone Park.Home to the top school district in the Tampa area
Pinellas County Schools serves the neighborhood and is ranked the No. 1 district in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area, according to Niche. Students can attend Northwest Elementary, Tyrone Middle and Boca Ciega High School. Northwest, which offers a multicultural committee, earns a B-plus grade on Niche, and Tyrone Middle scores a C-plus. Earning an A-minus on Niche, Boca Ciega High has soccer and lacrosse teams and a conservation club. Parents can also opt for area private schools, including Berkeley Preparatory, which earns an A-plus on Niche. College-bound students who want to stay close to home are within walking distance of St. Petersburg College's Gibbs campus, ranked the 11th-best value college in Florida.Five miles from Downtown St. Pete
