Suburban lots 2 miles from downtown Salem
Just 2 miles from downtown Salem lies Witchcraft Heights, a neighborhood where residents have more space to spread out and relax without sacrificing access to amenities and events. Ranch-style homes and raised ranches line many of the quiet streets, and local parks and trees provide a natural barrier for backyards and neighborhoods. Most homes are less than 2 miles away from the city’s hospital, historic landmarks and a variety of shopping and dining options. “It is much more of a suburban community,” says Michael Selbst, an agent at Gibson Sotheby's International Realty who has lived and worked in Salem for over 11 years. "It’s a little more spread out with larger lots of land compared to downtown, as well as lovely meandering streets.”

Raised ranches, ranch-style homes and split-levels make up much of the housing market in Witchcraft Heights. Residents can also find a number of Colonial Revivals on the higher end of the price range. These often sit farther away from the streets on larger plots of land compared to the rest of the Salem area, with plenty of space for a driveway or a garden. Build dates can reach as far back as the 1960s or be as recent as the last 10 years. “There are lots of cul-de-sacs and newer constructions in the area, so you can get a home in Salem without having to deal with the upkeep of having a more historic home,” Selbst says. Prices tend to range from around $550,000 to about $950,000.

Suburban sidewalks and Route 1 access
Selbst says Witchcraft Heights is more suited for cars than walking compared to the rest of the Salem area. Still, the gently curving roads commonly end in dead ends, creating a number of cul-de-sacs with paved sidewalks, where residents walk their dogs and get their daily steps in. The nearby Yankee Division Highway provides access to U.S. Route 1, one of the major highways in Massachusetts. Public transportation options are also available at the Salem commuter rail station, less than 2 miles from the neighborhood. The community is also home to Salem Hospital, which is part of Mass General Hospitals and just celebrated its 150th anniversary in October 2024. Boston Logan International Airport is 13 miles away.
