Faye Wright
Staying active and enjoying the outdoors in Faye Wright
While Salem has some large parks that attract visitors from all over the city, the green spaces in Faye Wright are primarily used by neighborhood residents. “They’re mostly parks where people living in the neighborhood walk to, rather than a destination that people drive,” says Erin Garibay, a broker with HomeSmart Realty Group who has sold multiple homes in the neighborhood. “They’re where people go walking or walk their dogs. Some of them have playgrounds where families congregate.” Woodmansee Park is a 30-acre green space with several activities, including a basketball court, pickleball and tennis courts and walking paths. The park also has a nine-hole disc golf course set among tall Oregon white oaks and Douglas firs. Wendy Kroger Park is a smaller spot that packs a lot into its space. Residents can bring a basketball to shoot hoops, bring the kids for time on the playground or enjoy a stroll around the park’s paths. For more activity in the neighborhood, Salem Tennis & Swim is a local club that offers a variety of activities. The club has five indoor and six outdoor tennis courts and member privileges at other outdoor courts in the city. Three outdoor pickleball courts are covered during the winter for year-round play. The club’s pro shop offers racquet stringing and a selection of tennis shoes and accessories. For those interested in swimming, the club has a heated outdoor swimming pool and a splash pad. Members can take individual or group lessons, and kids can compete on the youth swim team.
