Salinas neighborhood with agricultural roots
Bolsa Knolls is part of why the Salinas Valley is known as “America’s Salad Bowl.” The region produces a huge portion of the nation’s broccoli, lettuce and spinach, and lettuce farming happens in this otherwise residential neighborhood 5 miles northwest of downtown. “It’s more of a rural and country type feel, and a lot of the people living out there are ag workers that want to be close to the farms,” says Monica Wason of M2 Realty Group, who has nearly a decade of experience in the area. “It’s common for people to have chickens or even pigs in Bolsa Knolls.” The residential parts of Bolsa Knolls are concentrated in the eastern and southern parts of the neighborhood. Lettuce farmland dominates the central and western ends, while the Club at Crazy Horse Ranch, a country club established in 2014, takes up most of the northern end.
