A developing west Salt Lake community
Glendale is a community west of Salt Lake City with homes, green space and modern industrial properties. Two public golf courses sit within this neighborhood, and major highways like State Route 154 and Interstate 215 run north-south. The Salt Lake City airport is just a few minutes north. “One of the best things about Glendale is the proximity to downtown,” says Brian Babb, a Realtor with Equity Real Estate who has been selling homes in the area for nearly a decade. Home prices tend to be relatively low here, he says, and the neighborhood’s Sorenson Multi-Cultural Center & Unity Fitness Center regularly hosts cultural events and organizes activities for kids. “Glendale offers good home values and has the upside of a community development,” Babb says.
Brick ramblers starting at $350,000
Glendale’s space is split between industrial and residential areas. Homes are clustered closer to the eastern area closer to downtown Salt Lake City, and the neighborhood’s west side has contemporary industrial buildings for manufacturing companies. Homes include a mix of townhomes, brick ramblers and Craftsman two-story homes; single-family homes are priced between $350,000 and $700,000, depending on acreage and the number of bedrooms. Townhomes start at about $400,000. “In these communities out west, prices are lower than in downtown Salt Lake,” says Maryann Hunwick, Realtor for RE/MAX and area resident of 60 years. Homes are close together and typically have metal gates surrounding manicured lawns. People can park on long driveways or in garages. Because of the area’s arid climate and topography, it experiences air pollution and an annual wildfire season from July to October.
International Peace Gardens at Jordan Park offer a pleasant place for a walk.
Jordan Park, Glendale Golf Course
Glendale has two public golf courses: The Glendale Golf Course is a public, 18-hole facility that opened in 1973, and Stonebridge Golf Club has a 27-hole layout. Jordan Park is in the neighborhood’s northeast corner and spans about 33 acres, including athletic fields, a playground, a skate park and walking trails. Within the park is the International Peace Gardens, which has flower displays, whimsical, twisted trees shading a dirt walking pathway and statues representing various cultures, including Greek columns and a Japanese torii gate. The community’s farmers market also takes place at Jordan Park, and the nearby Sorenson Multi-Cultural Center offers activities like boxing and dance classes. Nearby hiking and skiing destinations include the Ensign Peak Trailhead and Bonneville Shoreline Trail, both less than 10 miles away.
Attending Salt Lake City schools
The Salt Lake City School District serves Glendale students. They may attend Mountain View School, rated C-plus on Niche, which serves prekindergarten through sixth grade. Children can move on to Glendale Middle School, which earns a C from Niche and has a community learning center offering after-school courses and language classes for students and adults. Kids can transition to Highland High School, which is rated B-plus on Niche. Children’s Christian School, 4 miles south, is the nearest private school that teaches preschool through grade 6.
Interstate 15 connect Glendale to the wider Salt Lake City region.
Commuting on State Route 154
Salt Lake City International Airport is immediately north of the community. Even though the airport is close, Babb says residents aren’t bothered by potential aircraft sounds. “No one really suffers from airport noise; I don’t really hear people complaining about it,” he says. State Route 154 and Interstate 215 run north-south through Glendale, and the Utah Transit Authority has bus stops in the center of the neighborhood near Route 154. CommonSpirit Holy Cross Hospital - Jordan Valley West is 4 miles south.
Classic meals and live music at Uinta Brewing Co.
The Glendale dining scene consists of chain restaurants and casual local spots. People frequent popular places like La Hacienda Salt Lake, a Mexican eatery and Pacific Seas Restaurant, a Polynesian restaurant that serves quick to-go plates. Uinta Brewing Co. is a chain brewery that has classic dishes like sandwiches and burgers, lots of beer and live music. For groceries and daily essentials, WinCo Foods and Walmart are located nearby on 5600 West.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Small neighborhood. Many people know each other. Downside is the house market is going up for a neighborhood that is old.

so i grew up in Glendale is my home there is so much stuff to love an there is stuff to hate the communities are great but glendale is "hood" and is at rivals with rose park so there is gang activity over all it is a great place to live my only complains is that they is a lot of shootings like once every two weeks so you do wake up to gunshots but it is one of the only neighborhoods in Utah where you will find kids playing outside and neighbors being friends you will see a lot of people its very strange to not see no one walking around personally its somewhere where i would raise my kids even though it sounds like its a bad place once you get past the bad it is a beautiful place with a good community

People in this community is very open. They aren't judgmental and try to avoid you if you're different. People help each other out and even give little gifts to neighbors during the holidays. Some may say that it is a bad area, but I don't think so. You can still talk a nice walk with your kids, pets, etc during the evening to enjoy the breeze and make it safely home.
