Small suburban area beside downtown Salt Lake City
A growing neighborhood on the west side of Salt Lake City, Jordan Meadows offers single-family homes near downtown. In contrast to Central City, a denser, more urban neighborhood, Jordan Meadows has a more suburban feel, where houses sit on larger lots and mountain views and high rises don't obstruct clear skies. The neighborhood has seen recent development on the North Temple corridor, which has created new job opportunities and thus allowed the neighborhood to welcome new neighbors. Plus, "There's a light rail that runs directly east into downtown, which makes it very convenient to all the city's cultural opportunities," says Scott Renshaw, who’s written for the Salt Lake City Weekly since 1999 and now serves as the Arts & Entertainment Editor. “You get the convenience of being easily accessible to downtown without the downtown prices.”
Mobile homes, bungalows and condos
Listings in Jordan Meadows are a mix of mobile homes, bungalows and condos. Many of the mobile homes belong to All Seasons, a 55-plus community with amenities like a clubhouse, pool and fitness center, and several of the area's condo complexes have experienced recent renovations. Buyers often move to Jordan Meadows for its proximity to downtown, lower cost of living and availability of single-family homes with yards. Housing in Jordan Meadows is relatively more affordable than in downtown, with a median sales price of about $410,000.

Meadows Park is a small urban park with a playground and an open field to play sports, and there's a sidewalk track around the entire park that's good for walking, jogging and biking. Redwood Meadows is another smaller community park with a playground and plenty of grass for dogs to run around. The neighborhood has a larger off-leash park that dogs and their owners also enjoy, Cottonwood Park, with lots of open space and benches under big shady trees.

Local eateries and top-tier shopping
"The Red Iguana is the most popular restaurant in the neighborhood," Renshaw says. "There's always a line out the door. It's known that when Los Lobos is in town, the band members stop there for the best authentic Mexican food." Other neighborhood eateries include Star of India, a Northern Indian restaurant with authentic Tandoori cuisine, and Nico's Restaurant, which is family-owned and operated and also serves Mexican food. For Latin American eats, locals head to Sabor Latino, which has a chef-driven menu with options like seafood, arepas and soup. They might swing by the local chain Apollo Burger for a casual lunch, and for a meal to go, they'll pick up from City Creek Pizza. Most Jordan Meadows residents get their groceries at Rancho Market or Lucky, and they shop downtown at City Creek Center, home to major retailers like Macy's, Nordstrom and H&M.
Downtown entertainment and the Utah State Fair
The Utah State Fairpark sits just beside Jordan Meadows, which residents from across the state travel to each September for rides, games, live music and livestock exhibitions. Jordan Meadows is just outside downtown, home to esteemed institutions like the Eccles Theater and Abravanel Hall and modern event venues like the Utah Jazz's Delta Center and the Salt Palace Convention Center. "Basically all of the city's cultural opportunities are within four or five blocks of each other, and the rail lines lead directly there, which makes it really accessible," Renshaw says. On Saturdays, locals meet up at Pioneer Park for a weekly farmers market, and every summer, they gather in Washington Square Park for the Utah Arts Festival. In addition to museums like the Discovery Gateway Children's Museum and the Clark Planetarium, downtown Salt Lake City has countless concert venues, like The Depot, a historic Union Pacific depot, Metro Music Hall, an underground nightclub with drag shows and DJs, and The Complex, which has hosted some of the biggest names in music.

Ten years living in the Jordan Meadows area. Grocery Stores close by. Gas Stations and banks within walking distance where I live. Elementary schools close by and easy access to freeways. Depending on where you live the traffic can get nosey and sometimes you can hear street races. Delivery trucks go off the 700 North Exit from I215. Lots of large trucks go back and forth on a daily basis and at night. Close to the Jordan River trail and parks. Medical clinics close by and lots of places to eat. Very multi-cultural families live in this area. There are plenty of unhoused (homeless) individuals in the area as well just like other areas in Salt Lake City.
