Alamo Ranch
Residential subdivisions, gated communities and active adult living
Modern Transitional homes bring a cohesive look to the community. These properties sit on manicured lawns and embrace a neutral color palette with lightly colored brick, stone and vinyl facades. Homebuyers will find single-story and two-story homes with attached garages, open floorplans and anywhere from two to five bedrooms. Small fenced-in backyards are the norm, and some houses have patios or private pools. Alamo Ranch includes everything from active adult communities to gated subdivisions, and homes can sell for anywhere from $215,000 to $675,000. “There’s a big price range here from very affordable to a little bit more high-end,” says Kellie Daniels, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, Realtors. “Alamo Ranch is also outside of the city, so there are lower taxes.” Residents are required to pay monthly HOA fees, and subdivisions often host community events that bring neighbors together. The Alamo Ranch Shopping Center has shops and restaurants
Shopping centers within Alamo Ranch allow residents to run errands, go shopping or grab a bite to eat without leaving their neighborhood. Popular destinations include the Alamo Ranch Shopping Center, an open-air plaza with retailers such as Target, Lowe’s and JCPenney. It also has fast-food chains like Taco Blvd, In-N-Out Burger and Chick-fil-A. Residents can find international flavors at Himalayan Kitchen, a family-owned restaurant serving traditional Indian and Nepalese food. The shopping center is also home to several nail and hair salons, and it’s just across the street from Santikos Casa Blanca, a movie theater with a bowling alley and arcade. There are more businesses along Alamo Ranch Parkway. The commercial corridor winds through the heart of the neighborhood and hosts family-owned eateries such as Tripoli’s, a cozy spot specializing in Middle Eastern and North African cuisine. The parkway is also home to the Alamo Ranch Food Truck Park, which hosts outdoor markets and community events. “Every couple of weeks, they’ll have a big party there with a bouncy house and live music, which draws a lot of people,” Martinez says. Other local hangouts include the walk-up window at Mila Coffee and live music nights at Senoritas Wine Bar. “We have all kinds of cuisines here, and my husband and I will walk over to H-E-B for groceries,” Martinez says, referring to the grocery store just off Alamo Ranch Parkway in the center of the community.

The Northside Independent School District earns an overall grade of B-plus from Niche and has several schools in Alamo Ranch. Students can begin their education at the B-rated John Hoffmann Elementary School, A-minus-rated Bennie L. Cole Elementary School or B-plus-rated Judge Andy Mireles Elementary School. Older kids can attend Dolph Briscoe Middle School and William Howard Taft High School, both of which earn a B-plus. The high school’s Dual Credit program partners with Northwest Vista College and St. Philip’s College to offer students free dual-enrollment courses that enable them to earn college credit while still in high school. The community is also home to the School of Science and Technology Northwest, a tuition-free charter school serving prekindergarten through 7th grade.Outdoor recreation includes amenity centers and SeaWorld San Antonio
Alamo Ranch offers ample opportunities for outdoor recreation. “Most subdivisions have their own amenities center,” Daniels says. Amenity centers typically feature athletic facilities, playgrounds and community pools that residents can access for free. Just west of Alamo Ranch is The National Shooting Complex, a semi-private shooting facility covering nearly 700 acres. It has skeet fields, trap fields and sporting clays courses where the National Skeet Shooting Association and National Sporting Clays Association host events throughout the year. Golfers can play a round at the public Hill Country Golf Club, which offers three 9-hole courses about 5 miles from Alamo Ranch. The community is also about 5 miles from SeaWorld San Antonio, and Daniels adds that it’s also an easy commute to the Government Canyon State Natural Area, with 40 miles of hiking trails and the site of the only known dinosaur tracks in Bexar County.Highway access and commutes from the Far West Side of Loop 1604
Loop 1604 runs along the neighborhood’s eastern edge and is a major transportation corridor encircling San Antonio. It also provides access to thoroughfares such as Interstate 10 and U.S. Route 90. Alamo Ranch is less than 25 miles from downtown San Antonio, and Martinez notes that rush-hour traffic is common around the community. “We have so many people coming to San Antonio that there’s traffic almost everywhere now. That’s part of why it’s so convenient that Alamo Ranch is a master-planned community where you don’t have to go far for most things,” she says. In 2024, the Alamo Regional Mobility Authority board approved a $94 million project to widen Alamo Ranch Parkway from four to eight lanes. The project is expected to cut travel times on the parkway by as much as 75%, although construction is not slated to begin until the summer of 2027. For flights, San Antonio International Airport is about a 20-mile drive away. The closest hospital is CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills, about 5 miles from Alamo Ranch. Residents are also less than 15 miles from Lackland Air Force Base.
