Camelot II meets the mark on school quality and crime

Quality schools and low crime rates lead the list of why residents move to Camelot II, according to Realtor Savannah Washington, whose Cal/Tex Realty is located in the neighborhood. A California native herself, Washington now helps her fellow transplants establish roots in the Lone Star State, citing exciting amenities like Six Flags, Sea World and the River Walk as destinations that attract buyers to real estate in San Antonio. “A lot of people are moving here, especially from out of state, and they’re building a lot of apartment complexes [in the area] to accommodate the growth,” Washington says. “When our kids graduate from high school here, they have to do it in a stadium because there’s so many of them.”

Ranch-style homes and bungalows

Camelot II has mostly ranch-style homes and bungalows, with a mix of sidings like vinyl, brick and limestone, and architectural details like painted shutters and trim give each home a charm of its own. Typically, homes in Camelot II have front-facing garages with double driveways, and large oaks often dot their front lawns. Sidewalks along the neighborhood’s wide, flat streets make Camelot II suitable for morning and evening walks, and some homes have small front porches, just big enough for a few pieces of patio furniture. Prices in Camelot II tend to fall between $150,000 and $250,000 for a three- to four-bedroom home, and the median overall price is $170,000. “The prices shot up after COVID, but now that the interest rate is higher, prices are starting to go down, and properties are starting to stay on the market longer,” Washington says.

The A-rated North East Independent School District

“The number one reason people move here would be the schools,” Washington says. “A lot of our buyers have children, so they look at the school scores, and that’s where they want their children to be.” Students attend schools in the North East Independent School District, which received an A rating on the educational review site, Niche. They start at the B-minus-rated Montgomery Elementary before continuing to the B-plus-rated Ed White Middle and graduating from the B-rated Roosevelt High. In high school, students can also take classes at the Institute of CyberSecurity & Innovation, a magnet program for students interested in computer programming, network security and cybersecurity. The preschool through eighth-grade charter school Harmony School of Innovation is also located in the neighborhood, and it received a C-plus on Niche.
