New residents and developments settle alongside local history
Located in south San Antonio, the East Pyron neighborhood has been a mainstay alongside the popularity of the Hot Wells Hotel and Spa. From the flourishing trees that dot historic sites to the trimmed hedges that accent well-maintained lawns, East Pyron makes good use of its greenery. The homes in East Pyron provide a particularly unique aesthetic that’s fitting for its history and its current residents. While the hotel and spa may no longer be, East Pyron’s quirky and creative residents still solidify their home as a community of glory days with stories to tell and much to look forward to in the future as it continues to grow and welcome new and exciting residents and developments.
Quirky homes with Spanish-influences
“East Pyron is a pretty unique place in that the residents tend to be very creative,” says Kristen Galloway, a 13-year resident of San Antonio who is heavily involved in the creative scene. “They put a lot of work into getting their homes to look the way that they want, and they take a lot of pride in that. It just goes to show how much they care about where they live.” Brick ranch-style homes sit on enormous lots, making for very practical outdoor entertainment spaces. Spanish-influenced homes with a midcentury modern flair come with long, spacious driveways and strategically placed windows to let in natural light. Large neo-classical homes that sit away from the street don arched pillar façades and roundabout driveways, giving a private yet personable touch. Prices in the area generally range from the mid-$100,000s to the $200,000s.

San Antonio Missions National Historical Park
In the center of the community sits the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, housing Missions Concepción, San José, San Juan and Espada. Ranger-led tours and strategically placed audio stations preserve the missions’ legacy by sharing their history and the importance of the location to the beginnings of Texas. Along the San Antonio River is the Missions Hike & Bike Trail, which connects all four missions along with The Alamo. The distance between each location is about 2.5 miles, and the plant and animal wildlife that live along the way just add to the overall experience.

Hot Wells Hotel and Spa history and ruins
Once the site of the world-famous Hot Wells Hotel and Spa, the Hot Wells Ruins sit right on the East Pyron/Hot Wells border.
