“The East Side community has really been doing a lot for its residents since all the Promise Zone programming has gotten off the ground, especially with homeownership and repair,” says Kristen Galloway, a 13-year resident of San Antonio. “The Neighbor Leadership Academy really has the residents engaged in enhancing the quality of life for themselves and their neighbors, and it really brings everyone together. They’ve really been thriving.” Wide streets flanked by manicured lawns lead the way through the East Side community. A mix of home styles fills the streets, providing a unique aesthetic for residents. Rows of ranch-style homes give the neighborhood a hometown feel and single-story Craftsman homes add flare. Traditional-influenced new builds have become more of a fixture, and modern condos combine southern comfort with urban convenience for those looking for smaller spaces. Prices in the area are generally in the mid-to-high $200,000s, with new builds starting around $199,000.

Salado Creek Greenway and Martin Luther King Park
The Salado Creek Greenway connects several parks in the area, with Martin Luther King Park at the head and Southside Lions Park at the foot. Decorated with tributes to the late civil rights activist and his vision, Martin Luther King Park offers sports courts for baseball, basketball and tennis, in addition to bike and walking trails. East Central Independent School District
Served by the San Antonio and East Central Independent School Districts, students have several options for their educational journeys, including Sinclair Elementary School and Legacy Middle School —with Niche grades of C — before enrolling in East Central High School. Sitting on an impressive 30-acre campus, East Central has one of the largest health sciences programs in Texas and an award-winning agricultural science program. The school also has an overall Niche grade of B-minus.
